Breather filter..

Why does my engine studder when I have the breather filter on? Do I need to plug the hole in the intake?

There should be a vaccuum hose somewhere if you're talking about what I think you are.

If he's got a breather, the hole on the intake needs to be plugged and make sure the PCV valve is nice and sealed up to the breather. There's a weaker vacuum without the hole sealed and you're letting in uncounted air into the engine.

OH! I'm a complete liar. For some reason I was still thinking intake. I've been especially dull as of late. Bear with me. Lotta stress at work.

you could put one on with out an intake, you just need to remove the hose that connects the pcv to the airbox and plug up the hole in the airbox.

Catches blow by particles/oil and traps it in the filter. Oil stays in, air goes out. Stock setup returns the blow by mess into the intake tract to be burned in the next combustion cycle.

So is the benefit just a cleaner burn out of the engine?

Dress up, and basically eliminates the need for that vacuum hose. Beyond that, I don't see any benefits. Anyone else?

The purpose of the hose is to burn hydrocarbons (unburned fuel) from ring blow by out of the crankcase so they dont go into the air. back in the 50s and 60s that same hose just vented under the car and blew oil all over the road. putting the breather filter on instead of the hose to the intake may help performance (very)slightly by keeping the throttle body and idle air valve clean and free from oily tar residue and helping to keep the intake and valves a little cleaner

you can always get 2 breathers and put one on both ends.....they don't serve that great of a function.....
