EVO gets smoked...
yeah....from a rolling start that hatch took off like a bat out of hell....Almost seems like this was all staged. Although I am aware that civics do have a great deal of potential. THis vid looked staged.
i don't think you guys know what a K20A is, or you are severely underestimating the engine's potential.
K20A = RSX Type S engine. This is not your regular b18C1 (or even b18C5) engine swap. Putting the k20A requires a lot of extra fabrication to get into an EG6 hatchback. Yeah I realize all this means bunk in this "debate", but my point is the engine is a performer and it's not just your "typical" civic hybrid.
Evo- 3200 lbs + 300 (2 people)
240whp/240wtq on a dyno jet (my guess @ 22psi)
Hatchback- 2200 lbs + 300 (2 people)
190whp/130wtq on a dyno jet (again, my guess)
Keep in mind, the Evo ain't a highway drag queen. If this was from a stop, the race would've been a lot closer.

As a person who has owned 3 honda's I can tell you that putting a k20 in a civic hatch is the power equivalent of putting a 3000gt tt in an evo. NIce job on the hatch but I can build up any old car I like, but the evo is just so fast out the box. I wouldn't mind seeing a qt mile time slip from the k20 hatch!!!!

.
.
was the evo stock and just a boost controller put at 22psi??? because the evo does kinda suck on the top end but to get pulled like that with just the K20 swap I don't believe.....My friend back in South Carolina has an EG with a JDM type R swap and it's gutted and so on with a bunch of bolt ons (toda cams, cam gears, type r pulley, vafc....etc) and with just my downpipe and catback I pulled on him pretty good from a fair first gear roll (at least 3 or so cars)so for that hatch to pull on him like that I don't believe....Oh and I got to drive my friends hatch (it's yellow also and I have a pic of it with my car in the shot) to verify it does have some pull....
evo got owned, now way around it. Its not all about horsepower but power to weight ratio. That civic weighs considerably less than the evo! And yes the evo is no highway queen... awd drivetrain loss etc etc.
that company (Hybrid Racing) is in my area.... they do great work and they specialize in the K series motors... they put a stock K20 motor in a 92-95 hb with a TSX header and an exhaust... it ran 13.3-5 @ 105-6!!
stockevo_8, how'd you get the video?
