05 mustang
I'd really love to have a V8 too but I really want handling so a live axle puts the new Rustang outta the picture for me. I'm going to be waiting for the new Dodge Charger since it'll have 340hp and independent suspension plus hopefully the same great performance support from MOPAR that the SRT-4 has enjoyed. I can deal with a little ugliness if the performance is there.......and a 5 speed is a must and that's the only spec I haven't seen confirmed yet. It's going to come in at under $30k too from what I've seen. I don't think the Mustang would stand a chance if you put them side by side but we'll have to wait for the shootouts. I can't wait!!!!!!

I know Neons have a rep as being pieces of sh*t (and well-deserved mostly too) but they can handle... they just never had any ***** in a straight line until the SRT-4
I have seen a few of the ACR ones ( I think thats what they are called ) they handled OK.
My point is the SRT4 is not good at handling. You say by adding coil overs, sways, and wheel tire combo it can be made to handle well, I guess the same can be said about the Mustang, with the right amount of mods, it can handle too. So the point remains the same I guess.

Questions like this really kill me. If you lease a vehicle, change till your heart is content. If you think you can out-con the finance guy at the dealership, you are more welcome to try it. If you are making a regular payment, you'll be so upside down worse than an IRS agent squeezing your nads. If you're not the son of Bill Gates or Hugh Hefner or a regional director of a company, why even try it? A bunch of fad driver.

well I already had a Mazdaspeed and didn't want 2 of those so I then I looked at Mini Coopers and loved them but the nearest dealer was 2 hours away. That's when I drove the SRT-4 and loved the power and figured I'd get the Mopar Stage II Coilovers and sway bars to make it handle good. I never did that but it's still an option as someone else already said. I do prefer handling over power though. I don't care how fast a car is though....if doesn't handle well or at least can be made to handle well with relatively little effort then it doesn't get looked at by me.
Ok so your knock on the STOCK Mustang is it's handling. You've never driven one of the new platform. Now you admit the SRT4 is no handling gem in its own right stock as well. SO then isnt that the pot calling the kettle black? Motor Trend drove the stang and said its handling is far beyond the previous platform.
You give the SRT4 credit for being able to handle WITH MODS but you dont think the Stang could do the same WITH MODS??
Your logic defies me. Maybe there is something I'm not seeing

I don't think you're seeing the solid rear axle on the new Mustang. The SRT-4 is still an adequate handler compared to it's competition.....the Mustang has an axle so handling is obviously not a consideration of the manufacturer. The SRT-4 is supported with factory suspension upgrades. The logic is that the SRT-4 can be turned from an average handler to a terrific handler with some inexpensive factory mods so it's stock handling was less of an issue for me because it could easily be fixed. A solid rear axle car does not give those same options. It is made to go straight and that's not for me.
I dunno I've seen some pretty good handling mustangs with certain mods. Or u could do teh IRS swap on the later models for around 700 and have a very good ahndling car. We did it to my brothers SN95 chasis cobra... very nice indeed.

I drove past an 05 on the road this morning... I only got a quick look, but it looked pretty good except the rear. Dark grey, like the color you see often on old GT500s. Unfortunately, we were travelling in opposite directions
the rear looked like this (but darker). To me, it really looks like a Mercury or something generic like that. But overall, looks good in person.
