I was on my third 6MT gearbox (all replaced on warranty) when my 350Z was totalled. There are also widely reported tire feathering problems on the '03 Zs.

I disagree. I had a 350Z. I think the Evo is a better built car. I had a few problems with the Z.

So does the evo 8 Seem faster than the 350z? I've never owned a turbo'd car, the 350z had tq down low pretty good, how is the turbo response in the evo 8, is it easy to go fast? or do you have to be in the turbo power band?

No. All 350Z are built in Japan.

The EVO feels faster than the 350Z. All the power is from 4000 rpm to the 7000 rpm redline, when the turbo is spooled up. My EVO RS is definitely easier to drive on a racetrack than my Z was, due to the awd.

The EVO will never have the low end and part throttle response that the 3.5 V-6 has. I had a 3.5 V-6 Altima and the torque reminded me of my old Chevy V-8's. Once the turbo spools up on the EVO, then all the fun begins! When you begin to mod your EVO and free up the restrictions, then there is no looking back!

is there lag that you can feel? also, can you hear the turbo spool , and hear the factory bov? also, the last time i raced the evo, there was a pretty loud whining sound, i heard that the evo's tranny makes a lot of noise, is that right?

On my EVO I do notice some lag. I've owned 3 turbo cars in the past and the EVO seems to have the least lag of the 3. I do notice some gear noise in my transmission. I do not notice much turbo whining or the BOV on my car, but then I still have the stock air box. On my previous turbo cars, I had open element filters and my BOV vented to the atmosphere. I definitely heard alot of noise.

I love the way the turbo sounds. There is lag at low rpms only.

I wouldn't exactly say it's comfortable with those springs, but I'm sure some progressive Eibach springs would cut down on the bone jarring and tooth rattling.

Hehe with the minimal sound deadening the driveline makes so much racket it would probably seem like it was about to grenade to the uninitiated

There are widely reported "durability problems" with the EVO tire too, but that's just the price you pay for driving gumballs on the street

If a quickdownshift isn't normally your first instinct before getting on the loud pedal, I think most people would be disappointed with the lag. Above about 3.5K rpm there is almost no lag. You can definitely hear even a stock EVO "whistling like a teakettle" to quote an article I read a while ago. The driveline isn't the quiestest system on earth for sure.
