What do you think of the 400hp 2005 GTO?
I drove an '04. It's not a bad car and has great torque.
In simple terms, GTO = GM Mustang
And whoever said "pig heavy" is dead on. Car felt like it would push through the front tires at speed

crazy, it's corvettes half brother.
Don't compare GM cars with Ford. Ford sucks ***.

Fun car to drive in a straight line, or around a circle. Off camber, decreasing radius over a rise.forget it

I just finished a test drive in a friend's '04 and I came away impressed but it just didn't inspire outright lust. Very solidly built and I appreciate the torque since I've been reacquainting myself with V-8s through my '05 Tundra (a relative rocket in 2WD long-bed configuration BTW). Around here, they can be had for less than $25K!
I had a WRX back in '02 though and an Evo is the next logical progression-- likely what I'll wind up with.

I think it is a step in the right direction, the rear looks a hell of a lot better. The hood scopes is alittle tacky but hey it's still more menacing than the Grand Prix look alike from before. With 400HP it should be plenty fast, should consistently run 1/4 mile times of 13.1-13.4, with the ocassional factory freak hitting in the 12s. Still it's not gonna be faster or quicker than the 03-04 Cobras, and the Cobra will remain the easier to mod. A new Cobra should be out soon, probably making 400HP also, with a Cobra R model making 500HP (those are the rumors). So it will be interesting to see how this new GTO will compare to the new Cobra.
I would like to see a special edition of the GTO with the LS7 engine. Or, did anyone see the episode of Rides with Jay Leno? The 1000hp twin turbo 427 that they put in the toronado or whatever...I would like to see that in the GTO with some big, fat 345 series tires out back. Then I would love the GTO.
the new "Cobra" will be 500hp+, but its said it will be $50k........
the old Cobras are on the crappy FOX platform........
The Goat doesnt handle THAT bad (especially with better tires.... C'mon KDWS's vs the ADVANs..)..... and its a great car and you only need a beater or a 2nd car if it snows.... not how I felt about my evo

I personally like the GTO and I think they are gunning towards the buyer who wants performance with a little styleing, but without the cost of a corvette. I like the interior and the exterior seems to be getting some styleing changes too. I love the fact it has 400hp and with some minor mods you could have a really fun car that no one would expect to lay the smack down. Who knows what direction this car could take over the next couple of years. I havent driven one yet, but im willing to bet its a nice cruiser on the highway and its nice to have a little get up when you need it.
If your talking about the GTO as a daily driver, I dont think its that bad. More comfortable than the evo. Nicer interior. It pulls pretty hard too, especially the LS2 models.
Although I love the handling of the evo, sometimes I think some people put a little too much emphasis on it. I mean, if youre talking about a commuter and overall boulevard cruiser, how much "handling" do you really do? In the city, I get the occasional lane change and the ever-exciting traffic light turn. Most detroit cars are built more for straight line performance becasue here in detroit, most roads are straight!
Track car- now thats another story. But for going to work every day, running errands, and occasionally cruising on the boulevard, I think its a pretty good car.
