With it's construction and power potential, it might be a good big car to drift. For a daily driver, I'd rather spend my money on something more refined.

I think you got the years mixed up. 04 was first year of LS1 GTO and 05 GTO will have LS2.

its a great daily car... even the M3 guys sweat the interior... the exterior is lacking but the appearance package is a nice sharp looking add-on.....
Its more than most people would need, admit it the EVO fans are the hard-core.... and if you dont take your Evo to a road course etc.... then its a waste and a GTO would be the better choice...
If you spend your time at the dragstrip.... they both can be fun, but thats where the GTO is a better car

2005 GTO
While the GTO looks fairly normal, it certainly doesn't sound that way, nor does it perform that way. GM quotes 0-60 mph times of 5.3 seconds with the manual, 5.4 with the 4-speed automatic, and 13.8 seconds for the quarter-mile.

The new 05 LS2 is a sweet car. I still won't give my Evo up for it though. But I would buy one if I could afford another car.

are you freaking kidding me? the current '04 z06's outperform the evo in every category possible (straight line, stopping power, handling, skid pad)...do you know what LeMans is? do you know who won 3 out of the last 4 years?...do you know how many vettes would murder your evo in 1/4 mile AND through a road course? you realize a cam only z06 with good tires lights up mid 11's all day? evo isn't even in the same class as a z06.........wait until the new one comes out...funny how you compare a highly modded car to a stock car, lol...sorry, but z06's are compared to lambos, vipers, porsches, while the evo is compared to Sti's and s2k'sOriginally Posted by cet_euro
After driving the Evo I cannot picture about driving any other car. I have about 400 WHP and I tuned the car and balanced the engine and did the whole works. This car would rape anything and everything in it's path. I could not picture going down to a GTO. Just my opinion. Also, selling cars for GM made me change mind about buying any cars from them ever. All vette owners from 1998 or so are in trouble. Only the ones that race their cars on the Hwy or street. When they bring in the cars for service; the BLACK BOX they have in their cars tell the tech. exactly how fast they drove the car, how fast they took turns and etc.... Yes every single car from GM has that..... As a sales man, I am only alowed to disclaim that if a customer knows what the heck he is doing when he is buying a car. So these are the reasons that keep me away from GTO or any other GM products and the second is...... After the EVO is modded there are not any American Cars to challenge the EVO. All the American cars are good for is only straight line and they don't even do that to good. So is the GTO with 400 HP worth it. TO me as a sales man yes. To you as a consumer? hahaahaha Come to me and I will sell you one.....
you should rephrase your your post, because a modded evo would have a hard time against a stock viper and a stock z06...and once those cars are modded, you are back to square one

not to burst your bubble, but the evo is not the car to end all cars...in fact, most people can't even distinguish them from the local kid with a body kit on his civic...low 13's @ 108mph isn't ALL that in stock form, so get your head out of your a$$, evos are nice, but don't think you drive some exotic king of the road because you make car enthusiasts look bad
nice car dont you think?
would you trade your evo for 1 of these?

I don't think so. Even though they added 50 more ponies this year, the car still weighs a lot and will still be a dog, though better than last year. The Evo's got this thing licked, from cornering performance to fun. I'm keepin' my Evo.
Curb weight, lbs. 3,725 but a 6.0L V8 SFI aluminum (400 HP @ 5200 rpm, 400 lb-ft @4000 rpm) i dont think weight is a problem here.
my old 6speed 95 z28 was 3742lbs with me inside, I had a few bolt-ons: filter, borla cat-back and hi flow cat, HP Power programmer, TB air foil, hurst short shifter, aluminum drive shaft. "no headers", a "ready for a new one" clutch and street tires. I ran 13.1 @ 104mph in the month of June.
The car from the factory had 275hp and 325tq @2,400rpm
yes it is not a light car but 400lb-ft @4000rpm
