Mercury Capri

One of my friends was telling me about a Mercury Capri, said it was a fun little car 4cyl Turbo. I was curious about and wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

WOW..a blast from the past. It was my first car. It was a '79 Mercury Capri Turbo RS. 2.3 liter turbo. The car is too heavy for the motor. It didn't handle very well either. Just not a very fun car.

Actually the later models were made in Australia and based on the Miata 1.6L engine. I had a turbocharged, intercooled version, I think it was called an XR2 it was a '90 or '91 model... Wow, I'd forgotten that little roadster

I remember that last version of the capri.. I also remember the first gen from the earlier 70's.. Reminded me of a Celica back then..

the second and third gen cars were basically reskinned mustangs, had alot of potential, but as another member said, the car didn't handle well and the engine was a little "BEfore its time" (Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was actually one of my all-time favorite cars in high school)

Anyway, was the last gen Capri a front drive or rear drive car? I recall it was front drive and never payed attention to it because of that.. Then one day it just went away..

Capris

It was a V-6 and they still use the bottom end for the 4.0 liter six in the Explorers.

It was a front drive, two seat convertible made in Australia if I recall. Had a 132Hp 1.6l turbo in the XR2 model.
