WTH: Why Do All The Mitsu Commercial...
Because the Lancers are easy to move. It's damn near impossible to market the EVO to anyone in America who doesn't know about it (it can't be a sportscar with four doors) and recognize how cool it is already (note that Subaru similiarily doesn't market the STi). The Lancer in it's most basic econo-car format is easy to move because a) it's cheap, and b) two words: fleet sales. As for the Ralliart... well, it's a niche vehicle, even more so than the EVO. I mean, "factory-tuned econo-box semi-sports sedan" is a pretty small market.
Now the Outlander, Endeavor, Galant, Eclipse don't move nearly as well (Eclipse is debateable) and have much more globally heated contests. While the Lancer has to face off with the Civic, Sentra, and a slew of other cheap cars, the markets that each of the others face have more cross-sections and need more attention.
Although, note that the Lancer(s) tend to get alot more print space in specialized magazines. Mitsu, as much trouble as it is in, is smart to lay on the marketing dollars where they will be more effective.

I've only seen one ad for the Lancer in Import Tuner. Worst of all, it was a on a pink page. Yeah, that'll get a lot of men interested... a car surrounded by pink as if it were targeted to female drivers.
at the dealerships, it's the opposite. there are evo posters, models, calendars, & pictures everywhere. they even have the automobile of the year & sport compact car awards up. i think they want to showcase enuff to get you to come in, & then WHAM! there are ralliarts & evo's on the floor all hooked up.
Well, when I bought my car, I was told that this car was mainly targeted towards women. They said that everything in the engine bay is labeled as bright as day, because most women don't know a thing when it comes to cars. They also said that the back doors were angled higher (when opened), so that way if a women has her hair up, it'll be easier to get it.....just repreating what I was told.
I had no intention to buy a Lancer - I actually went there to look at an Outlander....and I ended up driving a Lancer home that day.....she's almost two years old too!

I think it's funny that the salesreps would tell you, a female, that the car was designed specifically for women. Thing about that is... yeah... don't believe ANYTHING a sales-rep tells you. I mean, seriously, if you were bright green, and had four arms, a sales rep would tell you that a Minicooper's interior was designed to suit someone with multiple limbs and that the color scheme complemented your lovely skin tone.
I see Ralliart/Lancer ads in just about every issue of SCC and C&D I get. Less so in C&D which gets the Endeavor/Outlander/Galant competition for print space. Most recent was a Ralliart ad in the latest SCC where a Ralliart was superimposed over a Playstation controller, and it said simply "Play." That is definitely a targeted ad. As for the EVO... why pay for ad space when every magazine seems ready and willing to give you free publicity?

1. The car sells itself (unlike a lot of the other crap Mitsu produces) and there was an existing fan base in the US prior to its Debut.
2. It gets free advertising from the auto magazines, Car & Driver and Motor Trend two mainstream auto mags have an article about the evo and STI almost every month.
mitsubishis best selling car would probably be the galant because most people who buy cars want mid-sized sedans. this card has to compete with many other cars in its class so they need to advertise that one.
