Easy and Cheap cars to mod?

Ok, coming from the Evo background, I have the knowledge of what it takes to mod out the Evo to get high hp #'s out of it, and the associated costs. Lets not argue what route to go....

In comparison, what are some other cars out there that one can purchase, and mod out pretty cheaply and easily?

For example, I believe the 03 Cobra is very cheap to mod. Like $2k can get you 400whp I think.

The 350Z/G35 seem pretty expensive because you basically need some kind of FI; and those seem to run like $7k - and might get you near 400whp.

thx.

Anything for cheaper than an SRT-4, older of course but handling better? I'm looking for a decent fun second car.

I seen a quick spot on American Muscle car on the GLHS - I like what it stands for!

As for the RX-7 and the likes, don't really feel like rebuilding the engine every 60,000 miles...

if you wanna go cheap, go with an american car. Theyre not my choice in cars, but they are one thing...cheap to mod. As you said, 2k for 400whp on a cobra? insanity...

Integra GSR, 240sx - both have sh!tload of parts available and they start with decent hp for small engine cars. i have LS integra with suspension and brake enhancements for autox, but i'm gonna sell it, so i can use the money for future evo mods. integra is a fun lil car and B-series engines r0x0rz!

if u want american muscle - '98+ WS6 trans am or SS camaro (ram air packages) start off with 320 or 325hp depending on year. don't listen to what ppl say about their handling. those cars get less credit than they deserve. then if u add suspension upgrades, u can do pretty good at the track. i've seen ppl autox those cars, it's all about knowing how to release the car's potential.

That may be true, but that would be totally against my beliefs as an Evo owner! I laugh at these people who can do nothing more off the line than power-brake and smoke off tires. If I wanted something like that, I'd get a '03 Cobra, sink in $2k aftermarket, and go look for low 12's with the 400whp I'd have (390hp stock).

Guess I'm wanting something that will 'hook up' off the line. Don't wanna just spin.

I brought a 1994 plymouth laser (same as eclipse or talon) for $900 with a blown turbo (clean body). i got a used turbo cheap used all my stock evo 8 parts (fmic, injectors, fuel pump, boost controller, and my old afc) i even used my stock evo wheels. car looks great i spent another $700 to get goods like exhaust, intake belts and gaskets.
car runs like a champ
$1600 spent and i have a 12sec winter beater
kills srt4
if you want something newer get a 95-99 eclipse turbo
