If you were to get a car besides the EVO, which would it be?

They have those in the U.S.? I don't understand why you guys list Elise and Ariel. How is an Elise similar to an Evo?

BTW, should I get a Chevy Astro Van or a Chevy Corvette Z06?

Well, they're both *****-to-wall performance cars on a budget. Sure, one's a sedan, the other a coupe. And one's AWD and the other's RWD. But the question wasn't "what's like an Evo?", (the answer is STi) it was "what would you get if you didn't get an Evo?", and I'd seriously consider an Elise.

Maybe you guys don't get the ****ing point here. You can drive an Evo every day. It has lots of space, and a decent level of country. I would like to see the guy who enjoys driving an Elise every day. An Elise is basically a race car, same with the Atom. Might as well compare an AC Cobra to an Evo. They're not similar just because they are performance cars. I would also like to see the guy looking at Elises and Evos at the same time.

Maybe, but there's at least one point that you're not getting here. All of the cars I listed (STi, S2000, Mini Cooper S JCW, Elise, C6 Vette) have a couple things in common: they're driver's cars, and they provide exceptional performance for the dollar. Sure, some are sedans and some are coupes, and some are more "practical" (granny-friendly as Sport Compact Car magazine would say), but not everyone looking for a performance/value car cares how many passengers they can carry or whether it'd be fun to spend 10 hours on the Interstate in the car.

You can drive an Evo every day.
So I've got a short commute and a high tolerance for a stiff suspension. Does that mean I'm not allowed to consider a less plush daily driver than an Evo?

It has lots of space, and a decent level of country.
Space is immaterial to me. I've got an F-150 and a CR-V when I need space. But what is a "level of country"?

I would like to see the guy who enjoys driving an Elise every day. An Elise is basically a race car, same with the Atom.
No, it's a street car with race-car-like design and components. It has heat/air/radio just like an Evo. And it's US street legal, just like an Evo. The Atom has neither the amenties nor the DOT approval.

Might as well compare an AC Cobra to an Evo. They're not similar just because they are performance cars.
I outlined above what makes them similar, as far as I'm concerned. But, once again, this thread isn't about "cars similar to the Evo", so similarity to the Evo is irrelevant. I might also have been interested in a Hummer. What makes you think everyone only considers one kind of car when they're car shopping?

I would also like to see the guy looking at Elises and Evos at the same time.
Open your eyes. At least two have posted to this thread.

^ Well put. The question was "If you were to get a car besides the EVO, which would it be?" Nowhere in there do I see anything about being similar. I bought my evo without any regard for anything except it's performance. I could care less about the back seats or the trunk, neither of which I hardly ever use. The evo is simply the best all around performance I could buy for the price I paid.

Furthermore, the RS is not that dissimilar from the Elise bar drivetrain and number of doors. Stiff suspensions, very few power accessories, etc. In my eyes, I see the elise and the evo as being very similar cars, and both geared toward the enthusiast. Considering your responses, it seems the only appropriate answer in your eyes would be an STi.

Yes, I drive my evo everyday. Lots of member on here drive their evos everyday. Many of them put up with stiffer coilovers, no A/C, I even know a guy who's had his STi for over a year and he still doesn't have a radio. He spends his money on performance mods. How is this so different from owning an Elise. Sports cars are all about compromises, be that space, comfort, amenities, whatever. If you can envision driving an evo everday, but you can't imagine driving an elise everyday, then maybe you should seriously consider the astro van. It looks from your profile that you don't own an evo. If you are buying one because it has room, is 'granny-friendly', and has a "decent level of country", then you, my friend, are buying it for all the wrong reasons.

Evos are for drivers. Elises are for drivers. IMHO, that is all they need to be considered similar, not that it's pertinent anyway.

BTW, if you wanna see the guy that would enjoy driving an elise everyday, search for the "Post pics of yourself" thread. I'm in there

A Z06 will hand an M3 it's Roundel plastered rear end. So will a 911 GT3 (technically under $100 ), some 911 Carreras, and depending on the course the Boxster S. Throw in the Elise on anything other than the Nurburgring, the Viper... ok, you get the drift.

I do agree that the E46 is a great looking car though.

Yeah, you do know that back in the olden days of yore, cars like the mustang had round headlights, right? It's paying homage to that old school design, see?
