2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

There's a huge article about this in this month's Motor Trend. Basically, SVT is designing the car with input from Shelby. It looks like it's gonna get an iron blocked 5.4 litre V8 with quad cams for 4 valves per cylinder. And it should be supercharged. Estimated horse power is going to be at least 450 according to the SVT higher ups. I love the look that they're using with the slightly larger front grill, the front vent scoops to let air out of the engine compartment, and the black rocker panels and lower fascias to give the car a longer, sleeker look. A Tremec T-56 6 speed tranny looks to be what they're going to use. The only thing I don't like so far, but the SVT guys have at least given reason to why they're doing this, is the exclusion of an Independent Rear Suspension. The GT500 will retain the live axle of the base model, and SVT explains it as a cost versus benefits issue. They say that the suspension geometry has worked so well so far that swapping in an IRS would have little to no benefit for the extra cost of the car.

This should be released in 2006 as a 2007 model and for around $40,000-$45,000.

I've heard it will be close to the cost of the current Cobra...just slightly higher...$36-40k range. Very nice looking and a ton of power with potential for gobs more power. My only gripes are that it will probably be too heavy, no irs, and tires will be too small...I read that it may have 255's!! Are they crazy?!

Whatever the official sticker price, you can bet the dealers will be adding some hefty markups...for the first little while at least.

Oh yea...repost!

Thumbs up

No, I am not to offended, but $45 grand for a built short block that can handle 800 to 900 hp and a t56 "viper, z06" transmission even with a live axle is a pretty good deal. To me rustang can apply to the old school mustangs, but this car is off limits. IMO

you can't polish a turd Beavis.....a Rustang is a Rustang is a Rustang. I've seen Pinto's do 8 second quarter miles....it's still a POS Pinto.
