Sold Lancer bought SRT-4
The 4g63 IS a bulletproof motor, its been around since the evo 1, and all mitsu has been doing it building it up and improving it all the way to the engine you see under the evo8s hood. The 4g63 is an amazing engine with an insane power potential for its size. Add a large turbo, stroker kit and upgrade the internals you can push around 1000hp out of it for sure.
It's been around longer than the Evo I. I remember you saying the "little" engine would crap out if modded. It has more displacement than the Evo and makes pretty reliable horsepower. It's a cheap *** car, that's for sure, but it doesn't mean it's a POS.
i had a ride on an SRT-4 this weekend on a local meet here in chicago.. from wut i hear from peeps..the car was pretty quick and powerful.. uhmm to be honest..it was aite..lol i respect the car alot..coz it quick for wut it is... then after that ride.. i hopped in Omarboy's 308 hp turbo lancer.. and some other dudes evo.. and i was like.. hmm.. turbo lancer owned the SRT-4 for some reason..it was faster.. and the SRT-4 was modded too..im not biased coz i own a lancer.. but im just not feeling neons.. it was fast..but not evo fast..lol and i dont like how it looks and the fact that it is a domestic.. congrats though..have fun with it.. to each is own.. but for me..i think il never consider getting a neon..
^--agree!!!!!!!!! That motor is like kryponite roffle.. But the 4g63 is pretty bulletproof too. I have a superstreet article with one putting over 900hp to the wheels.. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.!!!!

Just treat it NICELY, all the people i listed were arrogant stupid young guys who thought they had the baddest car around, stomping on it all the time. Its like the evo, and most all cars for that point, u treat it right you most likely wont have problems.
I have had many bad experiences with dodge and domestics in general, the build quality is lacking, and they make a LOT of money on repairs and extended warranties.. so i might be biased. For what it is the srt is nice and powerful, but dont abuse it or modify it greatly without expecting MANY problems.

Actually the SRT-4 motor is significantly beefed up and takes to mods very well. Mod it and have fun. Below is an article from Sport Compact Car where they went throught the complete motor (with pics) to show how beefed up everything is. If you go over to the SRT-4 forums you'll find countless guys with mods putting lot so of HP to the ground with no problems. Like anything you can overdo it so just be careful what you do and when you do upgrades like turbo or air/fuel management make sure it's tuned right by someone who knows what he is doing. If you do that you'll have no problems.....the SRT-4 engine is a rock.

For my first mods I think I'm going to get the K&N intake, Mopar exhaust, and Mopar BOV. I think that will be a good and safe start.

. It was tough to see it go, I loved that car.
Yesterday I picked up my brand spanking new SRT-4
I love this car! For the price, I don't think you could beat it. And the Evo isn't comming to Canada until 2007(maybe?) so I picked the next best thing imo (for the price). This car is damn fast and has a pretty nice interior
Well it was nice to be a part of this forum filled with tons of great and helpfull people. Best of luck to all of you lancer guys in the future.

LOL
Congrats on the SRT-4. I owned one before my Evo. It had a ton of mods...Mopar stage 2, Mopar short throw shifter, DC Sports exhaust, Eibach springs, etc.
Like Low J said, first thing you need to do is pay $100 for the Mopar short throw shifter and some Booger bushings. It's literally a 30 minute install but it makes a world of difference. After that start with the suspension and then work your way to the engine. Have fun and keep it on the road.
