Used 2003 Land Rover Discovery???
Used 2003 Land Rover Discovery???
Anybody owned a Disco before? My wife and I love those things. I may look into getting one. I've read around LR forums and most talk about older models. So I'm looking for more comments on the '03 model (newer headlights).
I just can't believe they depreciate like Daewoo. I'm looking to pick up a used '03 for low 20s. I know they're notorious for leaking everything. A local 'mom and pop dealer had an 01 on his lot for 4 months. It only had 40K miles but when I checked it out it was leaking from the front diffs. I was hoping things turned better in '03.
Another note, the nearest LR dealer is 100 miles away. Is that distance a pain to deal with any warranty work?

my aunt has one... save ur $ like u said resale value sucks.. gas guzzler too... maybe thats just her's but.. imo save ur $ maybe join a rover forum and get more insight...
The Disco is a quirky SUV. Not that powerful & it's a pig on gas @ 12-14 mpg, and it requires premium. So many other vehiches in the Disco class get better fuel economy and are far more reliable. But on the up-side, you can pick up some Disco's fairly cheap beacuse of high gas prices, and the new body stlye that was just introduced has dropped the resale on the older models.
I'd never, ever buy a Land Rover w/o a LOT of factory warranty left.
On the flip side, the newer body (and expensive) LR Range Rovers have a very high resale value.

I've never owned one, but I've driven a friend's and they are SLOOOOOOOW as hell. ...and I don't mean tht relative to an Evo. I mean, even for a truck they're particularly slow and like the post above, they get horrible fuel economy. For that type of vehicle a slightly older Land Cruiser is a much better choice. Of course, they don't have the "advantage" of the Disco and will cost more.
I guy I work with has a 2002 Rover and curses it every day....he keeps saying he wishes he bought the Honda CRV. He said he's spent nearly $10k on engine and drivetrain repairs in the past year. You'll be repairing it often so a 2 hour drive for service would be insane. Buy the Honda, save money, no quality issues, and dealers everywhere.

Ahhh, I've never heard any good things about LR except on their forums. Anyhoot, I might have taken a chance, but I don't think I could handle 12 mpg. Especially, if the fuel has to be 93. I'm guessing the fillup would run $45-50 and only goes 220 miles. Ouch. My brother had to get rid of his Durango because the gas was killing him.

Its not a tyte car unless its a type LR!!!
My friend has one and loves it. He is currently in the military in texas, and he takes that thing all over the place (off road, blacktop, etc.). He hasn't had any problems with engine, drivetrain, etc.. and his gas milage is more like 22mpg, which is acceptable for an SUV. They are just overpriced. The old ones that were made in.. I forget what factory had the bad engines and drivetrains. He's also got a 1967 land rover which still starts on the first crank of the engine. We would take that thing on urban safari's, lol. (looks exactly like the ace ventura car that he flipped into the parking spot)
It was slower than a school bus though because we "raced" one. hahaha. It only goes 40mph maxed out.
