I reset the computer before going to work one day and after I came home it was right at 30 mpg. That was 180 miles (looong commute) of mostly highway, some stop and go, and probably 10 miles of stoplights. It's very easy to drive the car lightly because of how much torque it has. You can shift it at 2-2.5k and still keep up with traffic, not easy to do in the Evo. Then on the highway you can cruise at 80 mph at 1800 RPM, it all adds up.

Of course, then you can go to the dragstrip and average 4 mpg, I did that too.
The GTO is a flat out ugly car. I seriously think that car designers need to be shot sometimes or be put back into school. Something so they can apply some flare like in old cars. Nissan's already outdated the new Z design on most of it's cars and Subbie designers need to be killed for the next gen Impreza. American manufacturers are hella outdated. Look at the Focus. New headlights, woopie! The new Vette as nice as it really does look is teh same vette as last model (exterior concept) with new head and rear lamps. Just my take. Designers are beginning to get lazy.
^-- +1 They need to design the cars to perform well and look good too. They should take note of what the Jap auto's or European cars have to offer. It just seems they can't even compete anymore. But it starts at a lower level than that. It starts with how much money Americans are putting to their employees for insurance PER CAR, compared to japanese auto manufactureres. Americans cost per car per person is around $2000 for insurance, compared to Japan only having to put $800 per car per person into the cost of building the car. Thats one of the reasons the US is suffering.

KeS
the only things Pontiac designed were the bumpers, emblems, steering wheel cover, wheels, and GM produced the motor... i've actually worked on the car and when we removed the windshield you can see where Pontiac took the frame and welded a LHD interior setup... because the color of the metal behind the dash is a different color than the car was....
I like the lines of the GTO sans hood scoops. I'm a big fan of plain Jane cars. I like that it's not much to look at, but the handling thing would concern me if I were in the market.
