Ok. I have a couple questions about the scooby turbo, like a 02 wrx

What is the spec number. Is it a ihi or tdo4 or what?

Also is the turbo wategate adjustable. Like can I raise and lower the amount of psi.

And last what is the wastgate set at stock. I've heard it was 14 psi then I heard it was 7. ?

td04 I believe ... Yes you can raise/lower the amount of boost on the car ...

Stock boost is peak @ 16 and taper to 14 ...

Stock turbo is an IHI. Either a VF34 or a VF39.

 

ehh no way d00d keke... people upgrade to VF34's .. Cobb Stag 2.5 is a VF34, injectors, intercooler,etc ...

 

the wrx stock turbo is the TD04. max boost is at 14.5 at 3500 rpms and tapers to around 8 or 9 at redline. IHI VF39 is the stock turbo on usdm STI's. IHI VF34 is the turbo for JDM STI"S

 

 

So is it set at 14 psi stock. or is that what the max could be. Not worried about the cabilities just yet. So an sti usdm is a ihi vf4. What about the usdm wrx non sti? thanks for the relys guys this is really helpful.

 

The TD04 is the USDM stock wrx turbo and its stock max boost is at 14.5. you can use an mbc, but i would not set the boost higher than 16 to 16.5 psi w/ stock internals.

 

Oh yeah I was cobb'd and boost would spike to 16/17 and then down to 14 again lol ..

 

cool thanks guys. I just wanted to find out some more info on the turbo. Its going on my lancer lol. Im building a custom manifold for it to mate up to this turbo. Ill be running stage two basically on my stock internals so i dont want to over boost until i upgrade my internals.

 

14.5psi @ 3500 and 9-8 psi @ redline (7k)... yikes!

How much HP is the stock turbo worth?

 

thats why the wrx is a slug on the highway in stock form. you can get around 220-240ish whp. depending on the dyno. after that, the turbo is pretty much maxed out.

 

i had a wrx wagon w/ 230 whp, on a stock turbo, stock ic, turbo back exhaust and ecutek. stock turbo is 14.5 lbs, in 4th and 5th gears only. in 1st-3rd, the boost doesnt hit peak. the stock turbo is good for about 16.5 lbs, anything above that is probably above the efficiency range of the td04L. a vf34 or vf30 is a worthwhile upgrade for the stock turbo... what internal changes are you gonna make before you install the turbo on your lancer?

 

thats where my questions came in. Im running stock internals for now. Thats why i was asking the stock psi because i am going to have to tune it down to not blow my engines. either a wastegate spring mod, read that aznflip did it on his 16g, or electronic boost controller set way low lol. I am going to be running the tdo4 from a 02 wrx evo8n intercooler. type s bov, greddy emanage, bigger injectors, wally 255 and custom turbo back exhaust.

Am i running in the dark here or os there light at the end ot the tunnel.
