I owned an 04 GTO and yes it pulled hard but a stock evo will crush an 04 from a dig. I have yet to be in an 05 and with only 50hp more I find it hard to believe that it would walk on any stock evo. Those GTO's can be made fast which is the reason my car is going to turbotrix the second week of October for some goodies. Bring on the Goats...cant wait.

Hers a quote from a test as noted in a comparison test by Car and Driver (January 2005).

Key Data Values
Costs
MSRP (US$) $32,995
Mileage (city/hwy) 17/25
Warranty (yr. / mi.) 3/36,000
Performance
0 - 60 (mph) 4.9
Top Speed (mph) 158
Handling (300 ft. Skidpad) 0.88
Evo is almost the same stock except it will out handle it and outbrake it as well. From a dead stop I know the Evo will take it on the launch.

I played with an 05 GTO with exhaust on the highway today. I had 2 car lengths on him from 60 to 110mph then he closed the gap to 1/2 car length. He tried 2 or 3 times to pass me but couldn't. All I can say is he was pissed. One thing is the GTO doesn't stop very good the car was getting very loose under hard braking . I then stayed behind some slow traffic and he did the stone face fly-bye.

The 05 GTO is a very fast car, but it has too many restrictions. Don't let someone mod it like we mod the evo. We'll get smoked.

2005 GTO at Pontiac driving event

I went to the Pontiac / GMC / Oldsmobile drive event today at Irvine, CA and drove the 05 GTO and Solstice on a coned driving course. It was a lot of fun. Rhys Millen was also there to demonstrate his drifting GTO race car. They had a dyno that also simulated the quarter mile run. The automatic tranny 05 GTO dynoed at 355whp and 357whp on what I believe was a dynojet dyno. The simulated quarter runs produced 1/4 times / trap speeds of 13.02sec/108mph and 12.88sec/108mph. Also the auto is supposedly quicker in the 0-60 than the manual by 0.1 sec (4.6 vs. 4.7).

It was quite impressive. My impressions of the GTO were quite improved after attending today's event. If I was in the market for a fast and affordable highway cruiser that's comfortable in traffic, the automatic 05/06 GTO would definitely be at the top of my list.
