How long is the warrenty on the Subie?
Mazda's is 4/50,000, Free Loaner Car service as well as Free Roadside Assistance
And from our dealership: Free Oil Changes for the life of the car, free car detailing as well as having every other maintenance fee waved. I don't think subie dealerships offer programs like this. In the New England area, mazda dealerships' CSI scores are much higher than Subie dealerships.
Just the cars themselves, the Subie is a 5-speed, the MSP6 is a 6-Speed.
For both base cars, the prices are similar. They are both within the 26K range. If you add options the price of the car is obviously going to go up. The MSP6 is a limited production car vs the Subie Legacy which is a mass produced car.
But then, some of you are probably going to complain about how warrenty is voided after modding. In reality, how many people out there who have purchased a Subaru Legacy 2.5GT have actually modded their cars?
Other than the warranty and the CSI scores, I can't say that the MSP6 is a better car because I haven't driven one myself. The owner of the dealer has cause he's on the board at Mazda, but from what he's leakin to me since I talk to him everyday, is that the car is great and its unlike any Mazda currently in production. Even though the car he drove is still a pre-production car, there are not that many changes from that to the production car. I've driven the 2.5GT and I liked it so, I'm not saying which one is better or which one is worse, just comparing the facts.
FYI: From what I hear, there are a lot of Mazdaspeed parts coming out for the car. Which means they are covered under warrenty.

I think the Mazdaspeed 6 will be a nice car, probably a lot more comfortable than the Evo.
Mazda has an impressive lineup right now. I'm not a big fan of the RX-8, but the Miatas, 3s and 6s are great cars for the money.
The Mazdaspeed Miata is one fun car to drive!

the legacy gt and mspd6 will be pretty direct competitors. from what i've hard, the DSI engine will be a bit harder to tune with- the car has 9.5:1 compression, so i dont know how much more boost you can add. its got a small turbo and IC to start with... a legacy GT can have sti levels of power for about 1500.

The Mazda does look like a nice car, I even considered waiting to get one. But if you read the details about the awd drive system, its really more of a front wheel drive with rear wheel assist. Subarus and Evos have real awd systems. Since I cannot stand front wheel drive cars, the Mazda was eliminated from my new car list.

On paper, that's what is says, it is AWD car with a front wheel bias. The rear wheels can put down up to 50% of the power, but only when its necessary. Now, I can't say its going to be a great great drive, but you can't really make a decision based on what you read. You really have to drive the car and make your own judgements on it.
It's not meant to compete against the EVO and/or STi, it's meant to compete against the Legacy GT. Still with AWD and similiar HP numbers to the EVO, comparisons to the EVO are inevitable, which is kind of unfair because it's no match for an EVO (since it wasn't created to compete against the EVO).
