bikes?

hey so i know its not really other cars but i was wondering what you guys think of having a bike as daily driver and alternative mode of transport because right now i'm a freshman in college and i won't be able to obtain a parking permit until my junior year so for now i have to leave my evo at home. but they do let freshman get motorcycle permits so i'm wondering what you guys think of me getting a motorcycle lisence and a cheap bike, not even something fast like a ninja 250 or something just to get around?

are bikes really as dangerous as they say and what would i be looking at paying seeing as i'm 18 as far as insurance goes?

any thoughts or commentary would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Bad idea...

Even if you don't get a fast bike you are still much more vulnerable on a bike then in a car. You can be riding it a normal speed and still get hit by some reckless A**hole on the highway.

Stick with the Evo, it loves you more than a bike.

not to be gay, but if its close by get a scooter. awesome mileage and still fun to ride. not sure about other states but if its under 50cc ya dont have to insure it or have plates.

and they make tons of hop up parts for the smaller ones as well.

justing talking about riding a scooter is GAY! A 250 ninja would still be very slow. Look for a used cruiser if you want a decent bike. Chances are it hasn't been beat up like a used rocket

That's a long commute on a bike, you've got to really love riding to do that on a regular basis. Bikes are not dangerous, it's the other drivers that don't pay attention that makes riding so dangerous. I totaled my bike in June because a 16 yr old girl decided that she wanted to cut in front of me and my girlfriend and I t-boned her car and flew over the roof. GF was in ICU fro a couple of days, not something that I want to go through again.

a great bike to learn on and cruise around campus i think is the gsx 500.. not the hottes tbike but pretty forgiving as far as learning how to ride. I say go for the bike... its alot of fun if you ride safe.

just got an 05 raven black yamaha r6 this spring. its great. bikes are the **** you just have to be very careful and conscious of everyone else. like they said you can be cruising at the limit and someone can pull out or change lanes in front of you. never tailgate, never ride next to cars only in front of behind(especially on highway), and always look ahead as far as you can for people pulling out. my bike is way faster, way more fun than my modded evo and its only a 600. plus women love it like you would not believe. im 25 now, but if i had my bike a few years back when i was in college like you, i probably would have caught something.

Yeah, bikes are fantastic for commuting but 1 1/2 hours ride every day is a little much because you have to account for weather and such not to mention your a$$ falling asleep. For that long of a commute you'd have to be super hardcore with lots of bad weather gear in tow all the time.

yea that a bit of time to be on a seat. if it were like 30 minutes or somehing that would be a different story. bikes don't kill people stupid people on bikes and retards that can't drive cars kill people.

if you're in college and just need transport around town/campus and the occasional trek home then a bike would rule.......just make sure to get a disc lock and a BIG A$$ chain so it doesn't get stolen on campus.
