Mazda Speed 6... Competion for us?

With the new arrival of the Turbo/AWD Mazda SPEED 6, how dose it compare to the EVO and the STi. I mean it already has 274hp,6spd,AWD....... Has anybody heard anything else about the car and how it will hold in the AWD/Turbo SCC class?

from what i hear, it's more of a Infiniti G35-X competitor. the Mazdaspeed 6 has many comfort features and is not as raw as the Evo or STi..there's other threads about people's opinions on this car too.

The Mazda will probably be a great handling, balanced car. It could compete with the EVO or STi except that it's probably underpowered. Where , Nissan and even Subaru usually under-rate or accurately rate their engines, Mazda is notorious for over-rating the power of their engines. They got in trouble with the Miatas a long time ago.... OTOH, I hear that Vishnu is getting 220 whp out of the Mazdaspeed Miata with the XEDE and a few other mods.... That's a very favorable power to weight ratio! If they can do something similar with the Mazdaspeed 6, it could become a contender. For one thing, it does look pretty good to me. At least the style is not bad....

hahahaha After over-rating the hp of the RX-8 when it first came out, and having to buy back cars or give $1000 rebates to every single buyer, Mazda is at it again? Anyway, Mazda admits the MazdaSpeed 6 is not intended to compete with EVO and STI. It's a nice package, a higher powered sports sedan, but not a rally and racetrack monster by any means.

^ I was about to make the exact same comment. It's always better to give your customers a surprise than it is to disappoint them =/

Mazda already came forth when this car was first announced that it would not be an STi/Evo competitor. However, rumor has it that there will be a MazdaSpeed 3, and it may just house the same 274 hp motor from the MazdaSpeed 6. If the rumors are true, then I have a feeling that STi and Evo owners alike will be in for a rude awakening.

The key to that would be weight. I think a Mazda 3 weighs a lot less than an EVO or STI, and probably still would be lighter, even with awd and the 274 hp engine. You didn't say the 3 would get awd, but to compete with EVO/STI it would have to have awd. I guess we just wait and see.

Yep. It weighs about 2900 lbs in hatchback form, I believe.
