2006 Cayman "S"

Car should be released for sale second week of january, here are a few pics of a '06 Cayman S
This one belongs to Porsche. Dropped it off last week for display.
even though it cant be sold, this one is going for $71k on the window sticker.
The "S" will goes for 58k and can be optioned up to almost 90k with every box checked.
The regular base cayman isnt due out for another year or two, and there are already spy photos of a Cayman RS being tested on the nurburgring. rumoured to be close to 340 hp.

I don't see what all the hype is about to be honest. For one, I think it looks revolting. And, for that kind of money, I'd buy 2-3 evo's, mod them a bit, and do circles around the Cayman all day long.

i can tell you what all the hype is about, one of the best handling cars of all times at an "affordable" price. this car imho will be one of the best cars ever created and here is way. this car is based on the boxter which was already one great handling car with a great platform. the car was designed to be a roadster which means that it was very very stiff platform to begin with. now, add a few hundreds spot welds and a roof and you have an incredible platform. also, mid engine cars have an amazing weight balance which makes them both fun to drive as well as great handling. now, if you take this car and add a few hp from the base boxter s than you have: light, great handling fast car. to put all of this in perspective, every single driver that tested this car said that it was the "best porsche ever made" and some even went as far as saying that this car " would put a porsche TT to shame as far as fun to drive. we are not talking about your avarage driver here btw, i am talking about quite a few race driver as well as drivers that race for porsche which means that they used to driving the race cars. now i don't know about you guys but i think that this car is what dreams are made of. also, i am not sure how many of you had the pleasure of driving a boxter s before. the boxter s, although not fast, is one incredible car that is pure magic/ driver car which means that this car will be even better. i recommand that each one of you go out and try to test drive a boxter and then come back and tell me what you think. for some example of why i know that this will be an incredible car, take a look at the M3 roadster vs. the M3 coupe. teh roadster is a great car but the coupe version made it so much better and still considered to be one the best handling cars.

They tested that thing two weeks ago in top gear, performance wise its between 911 and boxster.
They noticed also the missing LSD,that makes the car slower.

I see, nice explination. I was wondering why some people considered it to be the be all and end all when it comes to the next generation porsches, I guess that explains it.

It still doesn't change the fact that I think it looks butt ugly.

to be honest with you, except for maybe the carrera GT, i doubt one can claim that the porsches are good looking cars. they are not pretty by any means but they do have a certain appeal that comes mostly from the brand name and the fact that they are amazing machines. i think that the evo/sti are similar in that regard because they also can't be called sexy but the people that know what they are will say that they look good.

I agree - awesome car, and I think it's beautiful. I love the look of most if not all Porsches, though. I think they're definitely evidence of form following function.
