some insecure rx8 owners..

That's one of the biggest misconceptions. Naturally aspirated rotaries are dead reliable and will easily go 200K with proper maintenance. Mazda, as I'm sure you know, is the only Japanese manufacturer to win LeMans. Check out their IMSA record as well....they did so well, especially in GTU, that the sanctioning race bodies essentially changed the rules and made the rotary no longer competitive. There are issues with turbocharged rotaries, mostly due to the excessive back pressure caused by the stock third gen exhaust manifold and high EGT's but there are reliable work-arounds. I have a friend who's tracked the same turbocharged 13B for three years in hot, humid Florida, an engine which made 493whp on pump using a crappy turbo and even runs a front mount IC unit with no overheating issues. He finally had it rebuilt. Internally, everything was fine except for the apex seal springs which were flat due to the engine being unintentionally overheated when a coupler was left off a hose. This same engine made over 180 full throttle passes on the dyno, a record for that particular dyno. Personally, I see these perceived reliability issues being created by incompetent engine builders, not the design itself. There are very easy remedies to some issues when doubling the stock hp. Not everyone knows these secrets. In fact, they're very well guarded. The other end of the equation is tuning and yes, the rotary is not tolerant to detonation, less so than say an Evo engine depending on the event's size. Doing the math, a 1.3L engine making almost 600 flywheel hp on pump gas...well there's not much that matches up outside of a race track-only design. Need more hp? 20B's can make an easy 650whp with a properly sized turbo and a street port. Race monsters make well over 1200whp with the highest 2-rotor output being around 950whp. I know it's mostly about RX8's (I have one in the family along with a third gen RX7 and Evo), but remember that a third gen 7 with mild weight mods and full interior weigh in at about 2650lbs. One doesn't necessarily need 600whp to run 10's. Just think...if every engine manufacturer in the world were pushing the boundaries of the rotary, I'm not sure any of us would be using pistons. Both fortunately and unfortunately, Mazda has the license for the rotary engine which stymies innovation by outside sources. If we ever figure out the hydrogen thing, I think you'll see the rotary take off.
just a few replys from the rx8 forum.. funny ****.
-Great purchase, just don't be a street bully.
-Nothing like paying an arm and leg for an econo box...
-Some people prefer performance over looks
-Those cars may look like overpriced econoboxes, but that's because your money goes toward performance almost to the exclusion of all else.
-Their dyno reads something like this...
03-04 VIII at 200whp
05 VII at 210-215whp
06 IX at 230-235whp
-These little sub compact hotrod cars are so whatever.
-There is no way these things run high 12s STOCK
-i drove a evo 8 many time the problem with is understeer a big problem with it,
sure it get more grip but on tight corners the evo does feel like a family 4 door car.
-**** ive yet to see a stock sti or evo hit a 12 sec 1/4.
the fastest evo stock i see was 13.4 and fast sti was 13.2
-the EVO IX is only marginally faster than the rx8
-why would you run/race a turbo econobox against a 6 figure exotic?
-Rx-8 = Slow but you'll get dates
Evo = fast but you'll masterbate( more than usual)

LOL, it's amazing how many people don't have a clue, isn't it! Check out the latest (and last) edition of SPEED magazine put out by R&T. They have an 9MR running a 12.8 bone stock.

I thought the EVO was giong to have direct competition till I read the article about the MS6 and saw the stats.

EVO is a beautiful car I dont care what anyone say, I had mine for over 2 years now and I still can't stop staring at it when I walk away from it. Its just so beautiful WAHAHAHH..... AHHHAHAH

HAHAHA....wtf everytime I see a rx8 the drivers are usually older. I just don't see how some ppl think the rx8 looks better than the evo.

No matter what we say other car owners bought their cars for their liking. I too think the Evo is one of the most beautiful and greatest performance cars around....But im not going to convince a Mazda owner that. So whatever i say, that is what opinions are for...keeping all these car manufactures in business
The Rx-8 is not an ugly car by any means, but they sware that if they pull up to a club in the 8 they will get all of the action...wtf? I just feel bad if they manage to get an atractive girl in the car then they get beat of the light by an SUV on the way back to their house...then they will look cool.
People think im pushing the Evo to the edge just driving normaly...the look on their face is priceless when they see what the car can do. That I wouldnt trade for anything.
