some insecure rx8 owners..
some insecure rx8 owners..
I'm just wondering how many evo owners here basically puke on the thread that has to do with different cars.
I've made a thread at rx8club.com about me switching from rx8 to evo a while back, and some of the responses that I get are just plain ignorant.
You guys do that to rx8 thread also?
Here's the thread by the way.
I didn't think it would be such a long thread.

IMO every site that is dedicated to one car will have a similiar mix of responses. I love my Rx-8 and I'm sure I'll love My evo when/if I get one. But IMO they are 2 different tools for 2 differnet jobs. Thats why i'll be keeping it.

ya, i dont think that their replies were all that bad. There were some that completely agreed with your decision and others that did not. In all honesty it sounded like you were the most unsure of your trade!
Evil, I see that you're in Baltimore? Let me know if you're interested in getting flashed by Al when he comes down to tune the DcEvo IXs on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd. You can get a mail-in or custom road tune in person for a little less than normal and without paying any shipping.
As for some of the numbers being tossed around, you can let them know I'm running 12.000 (race gas) and 12.26 (pump gas) on the stock turbo with exhaust, boost, and tune in a plain 05 MR that isn't nearly as powerful as the IX. You can also let them know that the IX is definitely capable of 12.6-12.7 in theory, but no one has actually done it yet. There are several 12.9s from stock IXs in the Drag Racing forum, and these guys had mediocre 60's at best (1.8-1.9). With a 1.7 60', a 12.7 is definitely feasible, especially since these guys are trapping 107mph. I hit 12.64 at 106.xx in my car, so I'm sure 12.7 could be done at 107. I ran 13.1@104 in my stock 05 with a 1.92 60', which is very poor. I didn't know how to launch with the 5k limiter in the way, and it's the same with these IXs now hitting 12.9. Get a good driver who knows how to launch with the 5k limiter (or with it disconnected), and you will easily see a 12.7.
The dyno numbers in the 270s are not "generous" either. These guys don't appear to understand the difference between Dynojets and Mustang Dynos or DynamicDynos. Dynojets are the standard when comparing and stating dyno numbers for any particular car. It doesn't matter what Shiv's dyno reads or Buschur's dyno. Those numbers are only useful for before and after comparisons. The other proof of the 270whp dynos is the fact that they are trapping 107+.
That one IX did dyno 375whp at Pruven in CT on race gas. Plenty have dyno'd 330-340whp on pump gas, so this is not an unbelievable number.

RX-8 is a nice car, nice looking, good handling. I would have bought one if they werent so S-L-O-W, well, for a sports car anyways.
I've loved rotaries and had them in the past but they are nothing without a turbo.
