I haven't owned both but I did test drive one before I bought my 2nd Evo, so I'll tell you what I think .

Pros: Torque.

Yup, that's it. Interior is nice enough but I just couldn't get a comfortable driving position, nor could I get comfortable in the seat and I felt too high up even after spending 5 minutes playing with the controls. Clutch travel is about 18" and it's the softest pedal feel ever. I tried to heel/toe on the downshift and almost fell out of the seat as the pedal placement certainly wasn't designed with that manouver in mind. It 'feels' like you're driving a boat. The car twists when you get on the gas and wallows through corners. There's absolutely no sense that you're connected with the road and the steering is lathargic. The gas, clutch and brake also feel disjointed and it's more like driving a simulator than an actual car.

After all that I was almost sold on the car anyway just because I remembered how much I missed a nice torquey V8 engine. I told the salesman I would think about it overnight. As soon as I sat in the Evo I suspected that I wouldn't buy the car and once I pulled out of the lot I knew it for a fact. Traded the Evo in for another Evo a week later .

I'd get a used C5 before a new GTO.. I think if you got the GTO you would want to trade it even sooner. I drove a GTO and was only impressed by the torque as well, but the car felt too lazy..You can get a used Z06 at pretty decent prices nowadays with plenty of warranty left..

If you are leaning closer to the GTO check out www.slpeng.com They have some go fast goodies for that car. I don't own either one but if you want a car you can mod you can find all sorts of evo stuff on this site, just wanted you to know your options.

Two totally different cars. GTO is a great daily cruiser, but too old man for fun factor. Its quiet, plush, and has some grunt. The evo is more spirited and fun to drive, but if I had to do long distance commuting I'd probably roll the GTO. Quiet, cruise control, better gasmileage.

HOW DARE YOU..... To old man... LOL

i have fun in my car every day... with 500rwhp.. i think its pretty easy to have fun though...

but even before the vortech.. i still loved it...

lots of people dont like it.... but you have to look at the car with out the gto name...

then what kind of car is it...? people need to stop comparing it to the old goat....

it is a awsome, car.. and wouldnt trade it for anything... plus it kicks *** driving a really nice car, that is pretty damn rare... and is really fast

hey yellow i do have to say that is a site with alot of nice people.. a zo6, i could but it really is not practical. almost 3 dollars a gallon, does make me want to stay with the evo.. both cars (evo-gto) to hit 450 horse, but the evo will respond better to the horsepower, a.w.d., and still get better gas milage.. but the goat is so much more comfortable.. oh and able to drift again without breaking parts on the evo.. there is only one way to solve this.. pay the evo off quick and buy a goat..

Two words (I guess).....SHELBY GT500. Light years ahead of the GTO without a big leap in price either. Magazines are saying it will be in the 40g price range which isn't bad considering the car you're getting. 475HP, Brembo's, handles damn good, decent interior (not fond of the retro stuff), doesn't look bad, supercharged, and dare I say 11's stock. This is the car I have my eyes on waiting for it to be released (this summer). If I like it I'll go for it, if not I'll stick to the IXMR (probably SE). But the Shelby is looking pretty damn nice right now. I'll take mine in black w/o stripes please.
