Vw Gti Mkv

ok my gf is looking into getting the new gti so i have been researching it for her, since i suggested it since she is small and i think it would fit her, basically she wants leather seats and the dsg msrp is around 27,000. we went to look at them this weekend and i read the performance specs and a few write ups and its a nice little car. however i have a few questions.

1. has vw reliability gotten any better within the last few years?
2. Does anyone know where a good dealer in so cal to get a deal?
3. Anyone with this car how much did you pay and what package did you get?
4. what are the initial impressions of anyone driving this car?

i have been looking around vwvortex but didnt feel like joining. so i figured i would ask my fellow evo members as i know a lot of you have experience with other cars.

please no she should just get an evo, as she doesnt know how to drive stick, and she may be too short to clutch all the way. she is almost 4'11

thanks for your time and any responses

Well vortex is your best bet but I'll see if I can help you. The MKV is said to be noticeable better than the MKIV and they are underrated at 200hp. I know a couple guys that have one and they like them a lot. The early MKIV were bad but 2003 and on are more reliable. The MKV has been getting great reviews as well.

yeah i read a couple of peoples reviews and they all love it, there was even an sti owner that traded into a gti. hahaha most of the mkv owners were mad that edmunds gave the si the nod over the gti hahaha. this was more for any other peoples experiences with vw and hopefully get the name of a good dealer in so cal

Well I bought a VW Touareg in 2004, which was SUV of the year according to Motor Trend. Really cool truck, but since it was the first year, we hav ehad lots of problems with it. Not big problems, but lots of small annoying problems. I would advise waiting till the second model year to buy any brand new design of car because the bugs are worked out by then.

I believe in this as well but this car maybe be an exception. They have been out in Europe for long time already.

The mark 5 came out in europe 1-1.5 years ago. They've worked out most of the bugs in the US versions. They seem to be great little cars, I wouldn't mind one at all as a DD.
