Subaru Legacy GT, any advice???

I'm looking at trading up in the world. I'm looking at a '05 Bluish Grey GT 2.5 w/ 5 sp. Dealers asking price is 19.7k w/ only 9k miles. I know others have looked and a couple have actual ownership of this car. Please post your comments, whether you are owners or just have experiences with this car.

Thanks...

Is it a limited or base? I drove a limited and spec b. Love it great car. quick and handles great. However they are not the easisest cars to work on. From what I've heard the engine needs tobe dropped just to replace sprak plugs. That kinda turned me off because with my driving they get fried pretty quick. and there were some other quirky things but still a great car

I was tolded that only the IM would have to be removed to replace the sparks... Also, I'm looking at the non-limited model with no leather (thank God) and no sun roof (*tears*). Only thing the spec has over the limited or the non-limited is the SI transmission technology. Also, I'm not worried about modding this car so much... Maybe upgrade the exhaust, intake, and suspension. This will be the DD. Leaves more time for modding on the project turbo Civic hb

Anyone Legacy owners here???

i've had my '05 legacy gt for about a year now and i love it. i test drove a mazdaspeed6 and was not impressed - especially for the amount of money you'd be spending over the price of a lgt.

the handling is very good however there is some body roll. there is no brake dive. the power is very linear. whereas the mps6 had great low end power (direct injection with higher compression) it would fall off at the top. the lgt has less power however that power will build and build all the way to the top. so you get a better sensation when driving the lgt. the drive by wire system and the clutch can be a little weird at times. i feel like it took me months to actually get use to the car. for example, i was on a hill and let out the clutch quickly so as not to drift back and hit the person behind me. the car started to buck and when i looked down the rpm's were at around 5k. *whoops* the shifter needs to have a shorter throw but you can get an sti or aftermarket shifter. the sound system is decent. i don't listen to it though because the radio commercials get on my nerves. the heated seats are gods gift to man. the heated side mirrors and windshield wipers are great too. the auto climate control can be weird but i never use it.

best of all, the lgt is put in a low-risk category for insurance so insurance is dirt cheap. i've been averaging around 23mpg. i have learned to keep off the go-pedal but i still drive harder than a lot of people.

anyway, i say get it =)

I actually went and test drove one on my lunch break.

body roll was minimal compaired to the lancer, the clutch did get some getting used to compaired to the xterra. the steering was top notch, to bad the sales guy said keep it under 4k RPM (break in time) or I would have seen how nice it was.

Check this... My salesman let my bud and I take the '06 GT slushbox out all by our selfs. Guess the 400lb'r didn't like the seats or something...

And I also just called Nationwide, and the insurance for the GT (turbo version ) will $50 less every 6 months. WOOT!

it was nice the one I test drove.
I'm almost thinking of getting one of those instead of an evo now.

Bad news... Dealer will only give me $6k for the trade-in; I knew I was going to get shafted, but not get the entire car shoved up my @ss! Trying to adjust the different angles to get under a $400/mo pymt, but I'm not sure if this is going to happen.

6k is pretty good for a dealer trade... private for sale is only like 7-8k on 02-03's.

on a side note... the dealer nearest me that has 3 GT's in stock only wants 25k for them right now. with a little talking... probably cheaper!
