rode in a 400hp wrx

he swapped everything to STi including the motor and upgraded the turbo to a 20g turbo off an evo by this company called TEC or something....also has i think 272/272 cams

why is it that when he steps on the gas and starts slipping the clutch i can already hear the turbo spooling like if we were on full throttle, but hes only just taking off from a stoplight or stop sign? is it because he has 2.5 liters? and it spools the turbo faster or something?

it's the big turbo combined with a short intake that makes the turbo spinning up very audible. Plus the turbo is right behind the firewall on the passenger side.

I had a green in my wrx and it sounded awesome. it whistled like a mac truck.

FP's do tend to have that loud whistle, don't they?

I don't know why I feel compelled to correct you, but it's "I rode in a 400hp wrx"...a road is what you drive on...and not knowing the difference between homonyms is why using the search feature sucks on this forum...like I have to search for "breaks" as well as "brakes"...

Yeah I've rode in a "500 whp" wrx and to tell you the truth I wasn't very impressed. It was slightly faster than a 300 whp evo. It had a 2.35 L w/ gt35r and aqua mist.

A good friend has about 390whp/420tq on his 05 STi. With the 2.5L, meth kit and the FP Green(?).. it pulls hard and very smooth that it feels like a V8 rather than a turbo'd car.

When I drove it, I was "missing" the turbo lag that I'm so used to in my Evo. Such a great car! And I love the sound... makes me miss my old 2.5RS... for the sound of it.

Took a drive in a 421 whp SR55 STi not too long ago. Sweet jezus. That car is currently awaiting a 2.8L & GT35R setup now. mint.

i went and test drove an 03 evo that had TBE intake and turbo timer, then i went and drove a stock 06 wrx. to be honest the wrx is much smoother as far as power goes, that turbo spools soooo quick...

Hahahah. That is so true. The 2.5 liter makes great torque and spools the turbo fast. It runs out of steam really fast though. That turbo is good for about 19 psi max. FP green is a decent upgrade for them though.

The description you are giving us about your friends WRX is truly a mismatch of controversy.

Ask in the world of Subarus an you will find out that one in 10000 Subarus actually install Cams on their WRXs, if you say that your friend has 272 cams he spent more than $1000 in cams alone, that does not include the labor and all that for just a few HP. Then you said a 20G from TEC? the number one choices of 20G on Subarus are the Forced performance and Deadboltenterprises other than that there is not many other 20Gs.

The 2.5l block is the option that many WRX owners are seeking to gain some power, only God knows how bad their finantial life is changing into. Basicly a WRX owner putting a 2.5l block is spending a good $4000-5000 for just a few HP gain, remember, the STI 2.5l block is just one component to copy the STI, you still need turbo, injertors, better intercooler, YAVSS system and you are just half way.

Tell you friend he made one of the most costly unworthy mod. If someone has any question my sources are this:

My friend John Wood from Tucson withn a 2.5l block in a WRX his website is www.t-rexmotorsports.com

My other friend Nabaji with a blue WRX and a 2.5l block from Tucson
My other friend Jimmy with a automatic blue WRX and a 2.5l from Tucson also
My friend Stephen from Tucson the owner of www.iaperformance.com he has a silver Station wagon and use to have a 2.5l WRX with a Forced performance 20G.

I know all the guys I mention above very well, I am aware that the 2.5l alone does not give you much HP and less you back it up with many more mods.

^ the 2.5 makes the car more livable with a big turbo. That makes it worth the money (or at least it did for me). Stock WRX cams really jam up he high rpm airlow. putting even the STi cams in the WRX heads frees them up a bit at high rpm. not sure about how 272's would perform. Idle prolly sucks.
