well im not 100% sure on this, but it seems to me that the evo9 uses an AWD system very similar to the GTR. This means you can simply change hydraulic pressure to the transfer case, and turn AWD on or OFF or just change the TQ split.. 50/50 70/30 or anything in between.

thats how my R14 is setup

Unfortunately the Evo drivetrain doesn't work that way...

Lightbulb

The Evo 9 is the same as an Evo 8 with ACD. The center diff is a 4 spider center diff with one spider sending torque to the front wheels and one spider sending torque to the rear wheels. The other two spiders simply connect the sides as in an open front or rear diff. The ACD acts as a electro-hydraulic LSD for the center diff. If fully unlocked, the torque split is unregulated front to rear, all of it might go to the front, it might go to the rear. If the ACD clutch pack is completely locked it would be a 50/50 split. (I don't believe the ACD every fully locks up though) There is no way to choose which end of the car will get all of the torque if the ACD decoupled though... which is why it's not comparable to the Skyline drivetrain. If you want a visual representation to make understanding this easier there is a sticky called "Evo Drivetrain for Dummies" in the Engine/Turbo/Drivetrain forum that I wrote.

You're welcome....

To be perfectly honest, I don't know, but I do plan on educating myself now that I own an Evo with ACD. And FYI, the "modes" of the ACD doesn't regulate what the torque split is, it simply changes the rate of lockup...

I've talked with alot of people on doing a RB26 in the 240 and everyone says it is not worth it when you hurt an engine component because it takes weeks to get a replacement. Thats why you dont see it very often. Definately a cool swap to do and it makes great power but its something you have to factor in when doing it. Just .02 i've picked up along the way.

Very cool Geoff. Cant wait to see it completed.

it might take a little while to get some parts, but they are no more expensive than any others, and many are the same part as a 300ZXTT. Also, the head gaskets are shelf stocked as are pistons. For the price that complete clips are going for ($3-4K) and the fact that a bare motor is relatively easy to get ($1.5-2k) im not really worried, since i want to see how much abuse the stock engines will take

thanks alot for the props. this thing has taken over my life for the past 6 months. it needs to end!!! haha

FWIW Manny Cruz went 7.7s all year on a 100% stock rb26 head with stock cams and stock ITB on a 100% stock RB30 bottom end
