What Should I get as my first car

What car do you guys recommend i get as my first? i was really wanting to get an RSX Type-S, but i wanted to know what y'all would think, i listened to some people in this club and i decided not to get the evo as my first car or even in my teen years, i plan on getting one when i'm 21 or so....which i think is a smart choice, no disrespect to all you evo owners that are still teens, but yeah i think it's juss too powerful for someone young like me, so anyway I was planning on an RSX Type-S, but tell me what y'all think, i'm getting my car next summer by the way! thanks guys!!

I'd advise against a brand new car. There are plenty of kickass used cars out there that won't break the bank should something bad happen (regardless of whether it's your fault or not). Personally, I'd take anything I could get, but if I had a choice I'd go for.

Used: 240sx (any year), pre '02 2.5RS, Galant VR4, '85 or '86 Corolla GT-S (not so easy to find), or 1g DSM (or 2g if you like them better...I just happen to think they're ugly).

New: Protege 5 (I'm a sucker for a nice lookin' wagon), Mazdaspeed Protege, Dodge SRT-4, Civic Si (they're cheap for what it's worth) aaaand that's about it.

Just my own list. Agree or disagree as you see fit.

The reason all those cars made my list: They're all relatively cheap and able to be tuned.

Get a 10 year-old Volvo. You can build up your driving experience on that and there's no better car to get over your first accident in.

It sounds prudish I know but I am very much against high-performance vehicles for anyone under 21 years of age (and a great many over as well). They lack the practical experience and by and large still consider themselves invincible. Goes with the territory.

I agree with HobieKopek. I don't think that a brand new car would be the way to go, especially if you're planning on upgrading (to an evo or whatever) in a few years. The big reason is that as soon as you buy a car, it depreciates.
So, if you go to trade it in for something else, you not only have to buy the new car, you have to pay the ammount owed on the car (more than you expect due to tax, title, interest, etc.) you originally bought, minus what they give you for trade in (which will be lower from depreciation). Even on a relatively inexpensive car, this can ammount to a few thousand dollars (due to intrest).
If you are hell bent on a new car, a large down payment really helps with this. The key at trade in time is to have the trade-in on the car exceed what you owe on it.

I agree with Hobie on this used car thing. It took me a few years to learn how to take care of a car. I'd much rather learn on something I wasn't going to keep forever. I've been through about 5 cars by now and only with the 2nd to last (new mirage) did I really learn to take care of everything.

On the subject of High powered cars. I got my License in the Caribbean when I was 17 and crashed my dads Thunderbird 3 weeks later!!!!! I thought I had held the quickest crash record until some kid from my old school crashed the very night he got his license. (He's OK)

I'm 28 now and I think I can handle a car fairly well now although I would still never and I mean never buy myself an EVO. I still have too much speed in my blood although I try to keep it on the 1/4 mile track.

Just my 2 cents. Start small and work your way up.

Oh and the cars I had were
83 rabbit GTI
84 200sx
95 Neon dohc
99Mirage
2002 Lancer
