Most of GMs good car products are coming from global platforms. The reorgs of the 90s depleted their car groups in favor of at-the-time profitable trucks.

Sure, I can go get a 303 hp in a Grand Prix, but it's FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. The same goes for the Monte Carlo SS and Impala SS. Hell, I can go get a snappy 4 cylinder car with a supercharged 4, but yet I'm forced to get a Cobalt SS! How about those that just want a nice V6 with some pizazz? The Malibu SS? C'mon now!
The domestics, especially GM, have some great engines, yet those great engines seem to find their way into really sh*tty chassis. Yeah, GM gave the public a refined RWD car with an IRS called the GTO, and it had 400 hp to boot, but it also weighed 3700-3800 lbs, and wasn't any faster than a stock 2002 F-Body- just more expensive. If the GTO had weighed around 3400 lbs, I would've been all over it.
Right now the Japanese are manufacturing cars that I want. They're quick, reliable, light(er), and fun to drive, whether it be in a straight line or sailing through a corner. The Japanese are offering the vehicles that currently fit my lifestyle.

I mean I love all cars, I consider myself an enthusiast, but as far as purchasing, nothing that GM, Ford, or Chrysler has offered in recent years has ever really appealed to me. I hate it when some people act like not buying American cars is being Anti-American, puuuuuuhlease, I served during two wars, and it's not like I go out and not buy American cars because they are American. Buying a car is not cheap, after buying a home, it's the most expensive purchase a person will make in their lifetime. I will not settle for anything, I will buy what I like. But times are changing there are some American cars that are starting to appeal to me. But I still love my EVO, but if I could afford a second car, I wouldn't mind some of the American offerings these days, such as this possible 2008 Grand Prix.

There are not many domestic cars that I care to own, save for the Ford GT, Corvette, or Viper- neither of them which I can comfortably afford (or afford at all- Ford GT). Not to mention, these are 1-dimensional automobiles. They're made for fair weather and taking out for cruises on the weekends.
I would love to see GM get back to their roots and offer some fun RWD performance sedans with some style and excitement. FWD Impalas just don't do it for me. It doesn't matter if they have 500 hp. Dropping a 303 hp V8 into a FWD is nothing more than a band-aid to cover up an otherwise boring and incompetent platform.
If they stuff an LS2 in it you would have a nice car. Or offer the 360 hp V8 as one V8 option and then shove an ls7 in it, detuned to 460 hp (to keep the vette Z06 on top of the GM hp heap) and sell it for 40K and challenge the charger SRT8.

Is it just me or does this new Grand Prix look exactly like the spy pics/video of the new Lumina SS that came out? Either way, it definitely looks nice but I'm not going to hear the end of it between my 2 friends ( 1 chevy nut, 1 dodge fanatic ) comparing it to Chargers.
