E46 M3 & CLK55 fatal street race
well, i agree with you 100% about parents need to take more responsibility and normally i am not in favir of more laws. however, it is clear that as time goes by, personal responsibility is actually going down so we do need some sort of enforcment that will protect the normal people that are driving on the road. it is not my fault that little Jimmy's father decided to buy him a ferrari for a first car and i will be pissed if he takes me out when he goes in flames..
those charges are crap..
even though he did **** I feel bad for him.
He didnt make the guy in the BMW race...or put a gun to his head or anything.
it was totally up to the guy in the BMW for his actions....he had control of what he was about to do

Typical OC rich kids, I've seen/known way too many of them. They think they are the center of the universe because their parents have too much money and instead of rasing their kids with care, they throw money at thier kids.
18yr old with a M3, cant even handle it and plows off the road doing 90? With two passengers none the less? Darwinism at its finest.
The manslaughter charges are bull**** to boot.

Who cares? They're just little richie-rich kids. If this happened in the ghetto it wouldn't have ever made the news.
It can be argued that the parents are at fault for buying these cars for their little worthless piles of sh*t they call "children," but it could've just as easily have been a two Buicks racing. 18 yr olds do stupid things.....

I too believe manslaughter charges are a bit much, I know it's the law, but that doesn't make it always right, does anybody remember the Jim Crow Laws.

Damn, maybe hell freeze over, or pigs can fly, because this is the first time ever I agree with one of your post, damn...
Driving is a privilege and not a right. That’s the first thing that I learned about driving.
Let’s not stereotype the kids and the situation just because it involved kids with rich parents. This could happen with ANY driver who’s willing to risk street racing. Have you EVER raced on the streets? I’ve done it once before so I’m guilty of it. And I didn’t get passed 60mph. I was just lucky nothing happened. Now I know better and wave off anyone who’s honking their horns or revving up. I take my racing to the tracks. If you haven’t street raced, then please keep it up.
I’ve seen enough threads on this forum alone to doubt that these news reports won’t stop anytime soon.

We ALL know that that a car that weighs 3000 lbs and has 277 whp isn't running 117 mph 1/4 times (or 12.1s.....)!So, then came the typical SRT-owner response: "You're just mad because you spent $30,000 and can't beat a Neon!"
My guess is that this guy can't afford to go to the track....I mean, let's be honest, it's clear he's poor. That's why he bought a Neon instead of an Evo or STi.
I am going to sound like a cold a-hole, but I am sick of people street racing, if you choose to ILLEGALY race on the street and you crash and die you asked for it. It is totally different that racing on a track in a controlled environment because there are saftey rules and if you violate them you are not allowed to race, they also have personel on staff to help with an emergency situation, you also have to wear saftey gear. I am not saying that you can't die on a race track, it happens but tracks are much safer than the streets. I do feel bad for the family of the 18 year old but I don't feel bad for the 18 year old. He made a choice. I am glad he killed himself over killing somebody else who didn't have anything to do with the race.

But see, there were some friends in the car. Now, the passengers either knew they were going to race and came for the ride, or the race just happened and they were innocent. We're talking about 18 year olds here. They do stupid sh*t, especially when they're with their friends. It wouldn't surprise me if the driver was trying to impress his friends with how fast his car was.
And then it can be argued, "Well if the passengers knew that they were going to race, they didn't have to go along for the ride!" Well, yeah, but how many of us would've said, "No thanks, I'll just wait here and you can come back and get me?" I'm guessing there wouldn't have been many of us to make the choice to just sit on a corner until our friends came back around to pick us up....
You're not going to stop people from making bad decisions regardless of their age. It just gets more attention when it is a young rich kid with a fast expensive car and street racing is involved.
I'm sure the kid could have killed himself in a civic almost as easily. This sh*t happens all the time unfortunately. Think back. I bet 75% of the people on this forum had someone in their class in high school killed by doing something stupid in a car or being in a car with someone who did some dumb sh*t. I know I lost 3 friends from one accident. I did my fair share of dumb stuff with a car and rarely gave thought to the potential consequences at that age. I always had the "I can't happen to me" attitude. After those kids got killed I smartened up.
I just hope their group of friends take what happened to heart and actually learn something from what happened.

Now, what I will say is this; Maybe it's just out here in MD, but there's quite a bit of aggressive driving that I see, and it's almost always some dumbass "BMW Boy" weaving in and out of traffic at twice the speed of everyone else, just slicing and dicing, cutting off everyone in sight. Most of the time, these people are probably in their 40s, but whatever the case, I still don't see them street racing. It doesn't mean that their actions aren't just as dangerous, but it's normally a "solo act."
For the record, I have NEVER seen either an STi, Evolution, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, or even a Camaro pulling these types of stunts. I'm not saying that they don't happen, but I haven't seen it. In all fairness to my statement, it's also not often one sees Lamborghinis or Ferraris either, so....
You're not being argumentative. I never said that they make bad decisions regarding street racing. I just meant in general. Today I had Mexican food for lunch. That was a bad decision.
I also some incredibly aggressive driving on the highways that is just as dangerous as street racing and this is on a daily basis. Usually it's pickup truck or SUV drivers around here and they average 30-40's.
Hell ,there was some show on the discovery channel not too long ago about street racing. One of the main characters (the one with all mazdas)looked like he was in his 30's. Grant it he seemed like a real dumba*s but, still there he was actively pursuing people to race when he was old enough that he should know better.

There trying to push the driving age up to 18, from 16, for some time now. Not sure if it would have helped in this situation, but a CLK 55 as your first car or a M3 is just unbelievable. Why don't the parents just go give there kids a .44 Mag as there first Gun.
It's to bad leason's are learned to hard way. Hope the girl pulls through and I feel bad for all the parents involved.
