Carpets and seat upholstery are here now. Got the engine sitting in it yesterday, doors are back on and things are generally going back together. Should be able to get the tranny in today or tomorrow. Then I'm just waiting on the tools to re-adjust the timing and I'll fire it up. I did install a block-heater, so I may be able to start it sans timing, we'll see.

lots and lots of brake-parts cleaner works great. Then used mineral spirits before I laid down the primer

Ok, so I did get the transmission in the next day.

Then the timing set I ordered turned out to be SAE, not metric, so that set things way back. The same guy did come back by to help me time it, so that's all good now.

Got the drive-shafts all hooked up, cooling system ready, coolant in it. Oil in the motor (though I am going to go pick up a rubber valve-cover gasket this Saturday). Changed the oil in the tranny as well.

Got coilovers on the front, and just tonight got the lowering plates installed on the back end.

I moved the battery to the bed, as the battery tray was completely rusted out, and they are extremely hard to locate. After I got it moved, I hooked up all the wiring, put the old gauge cluster back in, and turned the key on. I was ****ing amazed to see everything light up correctly, the glow-plug relay clicked on, and there is even still a half tank of fuel in it

So the big plan is to spend this weekend getting it to start. As I said, I need to pick up a valve cover gasket (rubber, cork sucks). I still need to get the exhaust hooked up too, been working on making my own tool for that purpose. And maybe put some headlights and turn signals back into it.

I have also started cleaning the dash. Since it is in great shape, no cuts, tears, or cracks in it, I am going to dye it to match the new carpet. Ahh, the new carpet, can't put that in, as I have discovered there is a leak somewhere and water puddles up on the floor after a good rain.

So theres your update

and now, some pics....
