I think because of the Import HP wars, a lot of the domestics have been underating.

Neon SRT4, 05+ Mustang for example gotta been underrated.

I believe the Mazda MX-5 also got bumped down -- 170hp down to 166hp.

Ok what ever helps you sleep better at night But your right good tune will do wonders, with a tune and other mods a STi was able to pull a car on me, oh by the way I was stock . I met up with that same STi again, but this time I had mods, and it wasn't pretty

W/E they're just numbers. The car is still as fast, or as nice, or w/e, as it was before.

Is it still a [insert car make/model here]? Yes.

I think they may be trying to cut down on the insurance costs on their cars by rating them a tad low. That was a large reason behind the demise of the f-bodies in 2002.

The reason the #'s are lower are due to the new law having to test the motors with Power Steering pumps now. Before you didn't have to run them.

Subaru needs to make more power in the WRX. the MazdaSpeed is going to take away some of those sales.

I can't believe the unchecked ignorance spewed on this site. The cars rating was accurate by the old standards of testing, now they are still accurate by the new standards of testing. Most cars hp rating went down from what it was. Interesting nobody posts evo's new #'s.
Previous STi's were always faster than evos stock for stock. Nobody was able to reproduce the times the mag testers got for evos, now that was some juiced cars for preproduction testing.
The only thing the evo has over the STi is a nice steering rack, and better stock tires. Truth, deal with it.

Your name say it all! TROLL! Did you look at the dyno references I posted? No, I didn't think so! Manufacturers came up with their own numbers previously, now they have a standard to test to, IF they want to be certified numbers, that's the difference. Idiot!

If you look at the dyno sheet, you will see that the Evo is putting out a higher HP # than the STi. The Evo is only down by 1ft/lbs on the same dyno sheet. They're both AWD so you can't justify the STi claiming 300hp/300tq on drivetrain loss.

Simple fact: Subaru inflated their HP/TQ #s.

What kind of idiot puts a boost controller on an STi? (almost) ANYBODY that owns an STi/STI knows a boost controller is a huge no-no. If he's that stupid, he deserves to have a car that runs like crap.

VERY FEW people reproduce the magazine numbers in an STi either. The fastest I've seen a stock STi run was a 12.89, and the owner admitted to the car being a freak. I checked the car out myself, and it was bone stock, period. The only thing that car could've possibly had done to it was an ECU tune, if he were sandbagging me. The exhaust, intake, etc. was all stock. Most of the STis/STIs and Evos that I see at the track are running in the 13.50-13.80 range at around 101-103 mph.

Yeah, the Evo does have a quicker steering rack, which is obviously going to assist in handling, and the tires are nice too, but the suspension is also better than that on the STi. In order to get a (pre 2006) STi to handle nearly as well as an Evo, AT THE LEAST, an anti-lift kit is needed. Take an STi through a corner and nail the gas in mid-corner, the car shoots wide because of the front-end lift. The tires just hunt for traction.

You, sir, are a very confused individual. You have no idea of what you are talking about, and this is coming from an STi owner.

This is off topic but ever since I got the 06 STI, I have been on the suby forums.
What I have notice is that MAN suby owners do not have taste in wheels!!! OMG, a $31K car, they put some cheap *** ugly looking wheels. Kinda sad....

Evo owners have more taste, no doubt.

There are some Subies out there with some seriously fugly wheels, that's for sure. I hate those Rota Tarmacs, I think they are. They're so fugly. So are those "5-star" variants that seem to keep popping up everywhere on them.

Okay then what are they? It was my understanding that Mitsu already used the more stringent testing, because none of their cars were rolled back. Meanwhile all of Hondas were and well as many Toyotas (and others). There are no 2007 Evos, but all the other 2007 Mitsubishis have the same horsepower ratings as the 2006s did.

Or were you just making stuff up?
