They were 32k. The local dealerships all had a mark-up on them going up to 36k. Thats a joke. My wife does have an 07 Candy White GTI, and I have to say. Its a damn nice car, and I would personally rather have the GTI than the R32. I can at least glean 70-80hp out of the GTI.

Are you talking about MKIV's ot MKV's? The MSRP on the MKIV was $28k.

Im talking about the MkIV. I dont care what the website used to say or blah blah blah. When i was in the market for my STI in 05, I was looking at other cars and the R32 was one of them. The original window sticker said. MSRP= 31,989.00 which basically means 32k. The dealership then had their own manroni toting "market adjustment value," and priced the car up to 36k.

I test drove it, it felt gutless, and decided to go with the STI instead. Yes it had a cool exhaust note, felt very nimble, had a nice interior..but at the time I felt like the STI was almost as nice on the inside, and had the extra power Id definitly want. The suspension doesnt feel at all that much different either.

Heck my Wifes Gti has more of a bumpy ride, and responds worse to potholes than my STI did.

When your talking about the new R32...it has the DSg, and you cant do ANYTHING to a dsg powered VW on the MK5's without blowing it up, then again there isint going to be a whole bunch of power being made out of the NA 6 cylinder in the R32. Save yourself some cash and buy the GTI with Huffs and pkg 2 or whatever. Get a cup kit suspension and the car will handle almost as good, and itll cost you 8k less

Your dealership was trying fnck you with that price. I did the same as you and shopped around when I picked up my evo back in the day. There could be a chance that the R32 you were looking at had a few options on it that pushed the MSRP up to 32k. The car that I was looking at would a have cost me just under 31k otd with an MSRP sitting in the low 29k range. As for buying a gti ............ never. Call me a snob if you like, but I prefer having a car that I'm not going to see 20 of other people driving everyday. If I wanted that I'd get a 3 series bmw. I also could care the less about the dsg or the lack of power to be found in a NA engine because it would remain stock (barring a catback). My days of voiding the warrantee of my daily driver are long gone.

It wont have anything over the Evo or Sti, because if its like every other VW out there it will be hard to KEEP it running VAG makes unreliable cars
