2009 Corvette SS
Stock for stock of course... I think it would give a Z06 a run for its money though around a road course. But I'm hoping that they have some of the tuning capability that the R34 and previous GT-R's had, and then we'll have some seriously powerful GT-R's.
The VQ series motors have made good power, but it's an aluminum block, so you would need to replace the sleeves to put a lot of boost to it.
The twin turbo version I'm sure will be more stout than the NA versions, but if the tuning potential of the NA VQ's are anything to compare, the GT-R should work well. It wont be an RB26 that's for sure, but I dont think we'll ever see another motor that good again. Unless Honda makes an inline 6 that is...
For 25k on a C6 Z06 you could have safely at least 750 RWHP + supporting mods. I have been getting quotes form various shops. I like the idea of a supercharger but Turbos are really were it's at for me and there are already 2 new set ups for the Z06. I like the APS TT kit.
Some guys have already broken into the 9's with only a 100 dry shot and a few bolt on mods.
One of those guys just did pistons and put on a 2 stage 200 shot. Can't wait to see what he runs on that set up. My guess low 9's at least.
BTW that is an old picture of the new SS and rumor has it GM may bump that 650 number up 700hp. The car is only supposed to weigh in at about 27 - 2800lbs.
I agree: SS will probably be 150k with greedy dealer markups. Also very hard to get.

If you want a race ready car that you more then likely wont mod and want to be able to run low 11's how 10's damn near stock then buy a z06. If you plan on turning a vette into a 1000hp street machine get one with a 6.2 and throw FI on it.
The way I see it - the base C6 will have about 440hp/440lb-ft and the GTR will have about 450hp/370lb-ft. The C6 is 3150lbs and with AWD/TTs, I bet the GTR will be atleast 200 lbs heavier.
The test mule for the GT-R has not been a Z06 but a 997tt Porsche and there are many vids and guys over on the Corvetteforms that own both cars and the Z pulls away from the P car everytime with equal drivers.
I have a deposit on an 08 GT-R and we will be involved with a "special project" with that car and a well known shop
Rumor was flooting around SEMA that the stock block on the GT-R could handle up to 800hp. That would be amazing if true.Thats when the Evo may be up for sale.....we will see.
yea i heared the GT-R would be stock with like what 10psi but the owners say it could easily handle more but want to leave it to basically people like us who want to mod it. never heared of the handling 800hp on stock engine but yea that would be nice. does anyone know though if the new GT-R will be 2 seater or 4, i dunno for me IF i ever get the money and decide to get it i would want to get a 4 seater though but meh i guess i'll have to wait and see.
[QUOTE=philosophico;4200038]If you wanted to dump 25k into a vetted you would be better off a regular z51 vette because the c6 z06 is pretty much maxed out. You cant add FI to that engine without blowing it up, the cylinder walls are paper then from it being bored out to 7.0 liters.
Thats not true. There are a few Z's already with superchargers on them and A&A out in Cali just finished it's second APS TT Z06. The real weak spot on the Z is the pistons. Can only run like 5-6 PSI without doing internals. I know what you are saying about the cylinder walls but most of the really good shops I have talked to said that "paperthin" thing has been beatin to death because one guy put a supercharger on a Z when they first came out and ran like 10psi without doing the pistons, rods etc. BTW Stock crank is fine up to about 750hp.
Do a Google and check out Katech Racing + Engine Development. They are the shop that builds all the motors for the Pratt and Miller C5-R's and C6-Rs, Caddy CTS-V.R, GXP.R., SCORE Off-Road, Dakar and more that have Dominated Sebring and lemans for the last 5years and many other winning platforms that you would probably be very familar with. Their reputation is A+. I think they know what they are talking about.
Sorry to go OT we were talking about the new SS.

It is a 2 plus 2 GT. So yes you could get 4 people in it although I don't have the specs yet so I'm not sure how comfy the back seats would be.
I will be posting updates as I get them form my dealer. They are right up on this car and just as excited as I am about getting one. Target date of delivery will be around March - April of 08. That is all I know as of now as a fairly sure thing.
