We've been seeing cars brought back by domestic manufacturers a lot lately; the gto, the charger, and the mustang being restyled to look more like the originals etc. So i wouldn't be surprised at all if we start seeing some imports following suit with the cars they are bringing to the states.
The AE86 was an awesome car, if they bring it back i certainly hope that it lives up to its predecessor.

im in dire need of a cheap sporty LIGHTWEIGHT RWD.
it wont be the AE86 chassis or anything, just the lineage so the original will still be classic all fine and dandy. so just make it so i can throw $$ at it.

They'll probably model it under the Corolla platform, because of that it's probably going to be a big bulky 2 door, (unless next gen. is going to be smaller but highly doubt it) and there probably going to use a 1ZZ-FE or something similar instead of the 2ZZ-GE engine cause clearly there minds were somewhere else when they didn't put a 2ZZ-GE in the MR-S.
These are just my predictions and am not saying that any of this is true but I just don't see them trying to bring the AE86 back. If they do, it's not going to be the vehicle that we're going to think of as the AE86.

I think its most certainly a possibility. With the explosion of drifting, and quite a few factory backed drift cars. Toyota already ventured into just about every other racing arena. Why not??
