WSB - I got the DSG gearbox... It's awesome.

I've heard a lot of good things about the DSG. But without AWD, I'm not sure it's really what I'd want, so I'd be "stuck" with the 3.2 (and it's $36k price tag). Maybe they'll offer AWD by the time I get around to buying one.

3.2 AWD is not really necessary... It's a lot heavier, not faster, harder to mod, etc.

When Audi USA called me about my purchase, my #1 complaint was no availability of the 2.0T w/quattro. I drove in the snow w/FWD, no problem. What I really want is an S3 in the 5-door bodystyle.

Part of my desire for AWD is that we have some highways in this area that get partially closed down during the winter. If you have AWD, you're allowed to go through, if not, you need chains (which I hate with a passion). I don't really need the AWD crutch, I've driven FWD cars in deep snow/slush/ice before and it's quite natural to me, but AWD is a nice perk driving up a 12% grade with 4" of loose pack snow.

S3 is interesting but I'm not sure it'd be a logical niche for Audi.

Nice upgrades. The Porsche is a great car and the Audi is a dependable car with enough get up that it can get out of its own way with some ease.

Thanks again for the compliments.

WSB - I see your point about the AWD. Chains suck... This car with winter tires would be like driving in the dry.

I agree with the not wanting an import in Northern VA. The local police will target imports for anything and everything they can, regardless of how loud the local domestics are. We call it the import tax.

I don't mind seeing wrecked car threads when I know the occupants are okay... the car did its job.
+1 BTW, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but what exactly happened in the Evo?? Is there another thread about this..? And yeah, nice upgrade! Looks like you have good taste in cars , but I'm sorry to see the Evo in the shape that it's in now... At least you're alright!

That is horendous what happened to the Evo, but you definitely bounced back. Gorgeous color on the 997.

SPT, site admin, has an A3 as well, and its a great little car. The 2.0T is this way to go. More potential, cheaper, better gas mileage.

There is a thread on here somewhere (and definitely on SoCalEvo.net) but the short version is:

I got on the on-ramp, a$$hole didn't see me, I accelerated, he tapped my bumper putting me into a slide, I rolled down an embankment 2x and landed on my roof. CHP blamed me for it even after I told them the other car took off, insurance tried to jack me, I got out of it...

I miss my Evo a ton - it was a great car. With any luck, I'll get an Evo X in 2009 or so.

So the 3.2 A3 isn't the way to go? I'll have to start looking at the 2.0's then if that is the case. I don't plan on modding my next car which will be used primarily as my daily driver. I want something that already has enough gitty up and go from the factory which is why the 3.2 looked so attractive. Thanks for the info!

Stock for stock, the 3.2 is a sportier car. A simple reflash, and the 2.0 is right about there. I believe the 3.2 has some upgraded features too. I still like the 2.0 though

congrats on the new 997 S. i got one in atlas grey. i had a 996 GT3 but sold it to buy an evo and proceeded to build the evo into a dedicated race car.

i missed the porsche world too much (once you taste it, you'll never want out so be careful! ). now my evo race car is for sale.... evo's are awesome cars but i just dont have the time/energy/desire to keep building up the evo. its fully track prepared with stage 1, race seat, full custom cage, etc, etc...
