if your concerned about weight causing maint. costs, just strip down the car a bit? for some reason i dont feel that it would solve your problem tho.

Honda. Civic eg or A Del Sol with K20/24 if you can swing it. If not, B18c5.
Most well sorted H1 cars with th eKoni 3011 suspensions corner much better than 98% of the Evos out there. The evo is glamorous, has power on cammand, and an AWD babysitter, but there are a lot of cheaper cars that are just as fast and 1/3 lighter on the wallet...they also have actual race series for them as well if you want to go that route. I for one am done with my evo. IT gets sold at the end of July. H1 honda here I come.

Where do you find something like this? Only on the west coast?

Sorry to hear you're parting ways...

As a former Sentra SE-R Classic owner, I couldn't agree more. I wish I had kept that little car.

There are several engine swaps available (SR20DET or the NA SR20VE) that would be nice on the track. Transmission is an issue.especially at higher HP levels.

You could do a lot worse than a nicely built SE-R.

Good luck & keep the shiny side up at the track!

I think if your doing the FWD get a honda or a spec SVT focus. Race car for 10 grand HEHE. Also RWD, I think that the E30 Idea is awesome. I have been in a couple track prep e30 very cool. Also, miata and s2k depending on budget. I would do a 1.8 miata with a turbo and go booyah to track days! SRT-4 Might not be the coolest thing or most responsive but def fun at the track and can be made to have power and uber handly fwd capabilities.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Evo. But just seeing what others think would be a viable option for some fun w/o as much $$ tied up into the overall value of the car as well as track weekend upkeep.

The 3250lb Evo as well as the STI like to go through tires and brakes pretty quickly if you start ramping up the speed and pushing it pretty hard from that I've read. Maybe that's just a fact of life when putting something out on the track, so post up suggestions.

Thx.
I suppose I should add to this... That I would still want something that is streetable. I, like a lot of people, don't have the ability or funds to purchase a trailer and a tow vehicle.

Well, I haven't posted on this in about 2 months, so time to update.

I think sometime in 2008 I'll be seriously looking for a fully built up track car. Something only for the track that I'll have to trailer to/from. Hopefully in the $10k range. Of course, that also means acquiring a trailer and tow vechicle. I know Percy found a very nice setup recently and I like the route he went.

If I step up the # of days I do, and expand into TT or towards W2W racing, I'll want something with more safety features like a cage, harnesses, fuel cell, etc. I could do this with the Evo, but I'd also am thinking about the 'stuff it' factor and not being upside-down in that event.

That's my current thought process, although I tend to have new ideas daily. Heck, I'm on my 6th car since 2003!

Since it sounds like you want to end up doing racing events that require full equipment (cage, etc.), that brings you into Honda Challenge and Spec Miata cars, Nissan SE-R's (91-97), Ford Focus, and 1st Gen RX7s as probably the easier cars to set up.

A well sorted civic would be nice. My h22 hatchback is nearly as quick as my EVO and a fraction of the cost

all the way, go with a 1g. slap a 900 dollar 50trim, injectors, fuel pump and an afc cut the exhaust or just run open DP and run mid 11s all day

or just get a better job to finance your go-fast addiction in the evo!

cheers bud
