Cheap car to track?
Honda. Civic eg or A Del Sol with K20/24 if you can swing it. If not, B18c5.
Most well sorted H1 cars with th eKoni 3011 suspensions corner much better than 98% of the Evos out there. The evo is glamorous, has power on cammand, and an AWD babysitter, but there are a lot of cheaper cars that are just as fast and 1/3 lighter on the wallet...they also have actual race series for them as well if you want to go that route. I for one am done with my evo. IT gets sold at the end of July. H1 honda here I come.

There are several engine swaps available (SR20DET or the NA SR20VE) that would be nice on the track. Transmission is an issue.especially at higher HP levels.
You could do a lot worse than a nicely built SE-R.
Good luck & keep the shiny side up at the track!
Check Out these vid links to H1 cars, the first a modest build, H22 Del Sol, very fast, in the 2:02's at thunderhill. the second, Andrie Hartantos H1 national championship car:

I think if your doing the FWD get a honda or a spec SVT focus. Race car for 10 grand HEHE. Also RWD, I think that the E30 Idea is awesome. I have been in a couple track prep e30 very cool. Also, miata and s2k depending on budget. I would do a 1.8 miata with a turbo and go booyah to track days! SRT-4 Might not be the coolest thing or most responsive but def fun at the track and can be made to have power and uber handly fwd capabilities.

Looking for a more cheap track car. Thinking about getting rid of my Evo IX and finding something more dedicated for the track and thus cheaper to maintain. Ideas?
Don't get me wrong, I love the Evo. But just seeing what others think would be a viable option for some fun w/o as much $$ tied up into the overall value of the car as well as track weekend upkeep.
The 3250lb Evo as well as the STI like to go through tires and brakes pretty quickly if you start ramping up the speed and pushing it pretty hard from that I've read. Maybe that's just a fact of life when putting something out on the track, so post up suggestions.
Thx.

I think sometime in 2008 I'll be seriously looking for a fully built up track car. Something only for the track that I'll have to trailer to/from. Hopefully in the $10k range. Of course, that also means acquiring a trailer and tow vechicle. I know Percy found a very nice setup recently and I like the route he went.
If I step up the # of days I do, and expand into TT or towards W2W racing, I'll want something with more safety features like a cage, harnesses, fuel cell, etc. I could do this with the Evo, but I'd also am thinking about the 'stuff it' factor and not being upside-down in that event.
That's my current thought process, although I tend to have new ideas daily. Heck, I'm on my 6th car since 2003!
Well, I haven't posted on this in about 2 months, so time to update.

+1
all the way, go with a 1g. slap a 900 dollar 50trim, injectors, fuel pump and an afc cut the exhaust or just run open DP and run mid 11s all day
or just get a better job to finance your go-fast addiction in the evo!
cheers bud
