Cheap car to track?
Looking for a more cheap track car. Thinking about getting rid of my Evo IX and finding something more dedicated for the track and thus cheaper to maintain. Ideas?
Don't get me wrong, I love the Evo. But just seeing what others think would be a viable option for some fun w/o as much $$ tied up into the overall value of the car as well as track weekend upkeep.
The 3250lb Evo as well as the STI like to go through tires and brakes pretty quickly if you start ramping up the speed and pushing it pretty hard from that I've read. Maybe that's just a fact of life when putting something out on the track, so post up suggestions.
Thx.

Something RWD... Miata = I HATED the looks of it So I won't say much about it
Although they are great cars around the track.
Other options would be s13 w/ 2jz or rb26dett.
Or Rx7(fd w/ ls1
Or a stripped out hatch with a b20/vtec!

An S13 with a 2JZ or RB26 is a worthless drag car. All it does is add extra weight to the front and decrease the handling. I properly turboed SR20 with a GT2871R will make about 350WHP easily on mild boost and be plenty for the track considered a fully gutted S13 with race seats only weight about 2300-2400lbs or less. Also a 5th gen hatch with a nice GSR motor with LSD transmission and bolt ons will be fast but the S13 will make a better road racing car whereas the civic will excel a little more in autocross. Overall I would choose the S13 because of the RWD platform and overall has more potential on a decent budget. Heres what I have come down too since I have been thinking of this exact same subject for two years with those cars. Civic will be a little cheaper to build but will not be quite as fast as the S13 with each say 10k into them. If you were stick to a 10-15k budget you will have one hell of a car. Also if you read SCC at all there was an edition that had a full done up S13 on a budget and the only car that beat it was a stock 05 MR and that was in the rain and the S13 was not prepped for that. In the dry they said the MR could not hold a stick to the S13. Also just to give one more option that alot dont consider is the 2nd gen Probe GT. They are pretty cheap and respond very well to mods and have a good chassis. A KLZE with bolt ons makes about 220WHP in a car that can be put down to about 2500lbs and fit 255's all around. Only bad thing about Probe GT's is there is not alot of aftermarket so they are not as popular as the other two suggested above. Hope this gives you some insight...as I have been comtemplating this exact subject for awhile.
