Tech ? Plymouth Colt 2.4L AWD
Tech ? Plymouth Colt 2.4L AWD
I scored a 93 Plymouth Colt 2.4L AWD to use as trade-in for an Evo. Does anyone know if the 2.4L is the same engine used in an Eclipse GS? Word is the Distributor/Coil has failed and I was hoping someone might have some info on parts. Might be a cool car to keep but the Evo is also pretty nice.
The Colt Vista AWD is Plymouths version of the Mitsubishi RVR.

I think the 2.4 liter motor with AWD is a rare option package. I want to know if it has anything in common with Eclipse GSX's or possibly early Evos. I feel obligated to modify it with aftermarket parts.

The engine is an older version of the 4G64. Not sure if all aftermarket parts will give the same eprformance improvements or even fit/work...
The engine is hooked up via transfer case ot the 4WD systm. This package was quite rare on both the Colt Vista and
Expo LRV.

There was a Galant GSX in MY91-92 when they make an N/A 4G63 (output @ ~150-ish) with AWD.
You may also know about this car...it's the little brother of the Galant VR-4 (Turbo 4G63, AWD).
My guess is your tranny is probably the same as the Galant GSX with an N/A 4G64...

I too have this car. It is the Mitsubishi '93 Expo LRV 2.4L AWD. You should beware of the engine block. So far, everyone I have encountered with the same type of car (the Plymouth Colt Vista, Mitsubishi EXPO LRV and Eagle Summit), has had problems with the engine block. One of the valves leak oil and eventually creates engine seal problems. I have kept the car in perfect condition but despite doing so, the engine problems soon started. I found out too late and when I brought it to the local shop, the screwed it up because they couldn't find the problem. Soon, I had to have another local shop take apart the entire engine to repair it. They told me it would be costly to repair the engine. As a result I had my engine completely rebuilt.
