07 sti no good compared to evo

me and my bro wanted to buy an evo for a little while. i got the evo first so he got an sti just to be competition. i got my car at the end of december 06 and he got the sti a week later in january 07. he had the car 2 months and cracked 2 pistons when the car was stock. so it took the dealer another 2 months to fix the car under warranty. so then he had the car 4 months when he got it back and it was in the shop for 2. 3 months later, or this saturday morning which was about a week after we put the cobb stg 2 on his car, he heard rod knock on the way to work. it kinda sounded like a machine gun and it got faster as the car accelerated faster. it didnt sound good. my car from then has had no problems except for it dying a couple of times randomly but thats not as bad. i was wondering if anyone else who has an 07 sti have these types of problems like this

thanks

To reply to the original post though - no - most people with Subies do NOT have this problem or anything close to it. An STi just takes much more effort to fine tune than an Evo does. Evo's respond well to bolt ons with or without a tune - obviously a tune benefits the car. But, STi's and WRX's have to be tuned after every little mod to really get anything out of the car.

Crap, I hope I didn't start the age old debate

Meh. Both cars are awesome in their own ways.

+1. STi engines and trannys are very solid and reliable. I'm not sure if your brother got a bad one or if he is doing something wrong but that's not normal for an STi.

Why does your Evo randomly die? That's not normal either.

lol at your evo normally dying being okay

I agree with the person above me...how do you define that as normal?

sti's are usually bulletproof at bolt on stages...your bro either doesn't know how to drive or the car is a lemon

Having owned both an Evo and a WRX (with a '05 JDM STi drive-train swap), I find that the Suby was WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more reliable and felt better built than my Evo. I am surprised to hear the Suby is being that problematic.

Sounds like his car is a lemon, and your car dying randomly at times is not better either :P. Maybe you both have lemons .

Why the hell are you asking for STI advice on an Evo forum? Head over to www.iwsti.com. They can offer better insight. I've owned a WRX (i know i know not an sti,) and that thing was bomb proof.
