Thinking about a 03 Cobra?
What do you guys say should i trade in my 03 evo for a 03/04 Cobra? What are some pros and cons about the cars, for example would maintanence on the Cobra be cheaper than the evo? and how is the reliability on the cobra?
Thanks
Thanks
I could write you a book, but I'll give you the Readers Digest version instead. If you like speed and don't autocross or track your car with any regularity you may really like the Cobra. If all you do is some friendly street runs and the occasional run down the track I think it is a good choice.
Pros: Cobras are fast much cheaper and easier to make fast and can do it on pump gas. Most Cobra guys don't use race gas until 600whp on blowers and 700whp on Turbos then most will start mixing a little race gas in. Best sounding exhaust.
Cons: IRS doesn't like launching, they do feel boaty without being lowered and with suspension work done. If your goal is 1000whp they can be just as expensive as a EVO.
Here is a link to a guy selling a 10.8@137mph+ car. It runs the time on pump and has more in it. 30-32K I'm sure it would be yours. SVTperformance.com and Modularfords.com have the best cars for sale.

Here is a link to a 15psi Cobra running a t-76 vs a 31psi 37R, 2.3, fully built EVO the video sucks though. Cobra won buy 1/2-1 car from a 40mph roll.

03-04 Cobras are really nice, and I have actually been considering gettting one too. They are relatively cheap to make fast, and actually get pretty decent gas mileage. They are definately not as good of daily driven cars, especially in bad weather, as evos due to being rear wheel drive. Also, like jasil said, the handling on them is no where near that of the evo.
The Cobra is a great highway/boulevard cruiser. They look great, sound incredible, make great hp/tq on pump gas (500+rwhp with a ported blower) and they don't handle too bad either.
When you start wanting to run low-11s or better, the IRS becomes the weak link (as with most other cars). It can be beefed up, however, you can usually sell the IRS to someone and use that money to upgrade to a bulletproof 8.8 live axle.

Get the cobra! you will not regret it!(unless you hit a light with an evo)
You can't go wrong with a cobra. all you need is a rear end girdle and the irs can handle 700hp. The longblock can make 800+ without opening the valvecovers.

ive been wanting to trademy gt35r evo for a 03-04 cobra and have bveen asking alot of cobra owners if they want to trade and none of them want to... the best way is to sell ur car out right and then go buy a cobra
Damn, I too wouldn't mind getting a Cobra.... but I don't see me trading in my Evo for something that handles worse, is less practical, and would be bad in snow/rain.
If you plan to just do Highway Rolls and Drag, then it wouldn't be that bad of a Car for you, especially if you turbo it.
I will buy one. And have it in the Garage with my Evo, Or I might just build an LSx RX7 FD.

Cobras are my guilty pleasure.
It's a car I'd like to have for a month or two just to get a taste of but after a while I'd like to return to reality.
I thought the Evo interior was bad. I can't stomach the interior in those cars.
I also can't picture myself fitting in to the "Cobra Community" at all.
Personally I'd rather pull together a few more bucks and grab a C5 ZO6.

There doesn't seem to be alot of high HP cobra's for sale, as in over 700 hp. Most of them seem to be in the 450-500 hp range which isn't enough
It would suck to go from my evo that is making 550 on a MD (pump/meth) to a muscle car that is making less
