I think it has to do with the thickness of the cylinder walls vs the LS7's which doesn't have much room to play with is what I heard .....but you make a good point that has been discussed in length on the Vette forums. Nobody knows for sure until this beast is released at the Detroit Auto show. I think Bob Lutz upped the HP to 700 or at least that is what is rumored....can't wait.

To think we are in an age where you can go into a dealer and drive out in a 10sec street legal car.....what a great time to be a car nut....lots of super cars coming out in all areas of performance and at every price range. Domestics & Imports doesn't matter it 's all good for us


Hope the Tree huggers & emissions laws don't ruin our fun.

I dont know how much of a problem the cylinder wall thickness is though. Look at Lingenfelter, they are selling twin turbo kits that put down 800 hp. Im sure they could slap a supercharger on the LS7 to make only 650-700 if thats the power they are shooting for right? C'mon GM! Do the right thing and hook everyone up with a super vette with a s/c LS7 already.

And WhtEvo5, I remember a while back reading about a guy who bought a GT500 for around sticker ( not the atrocious dealer price) and put less than 5k into mods including modding the stock supercharger, put it on some drag radials and got into the 9's. 50 grand for a brand new 9 second car? Sounds good to me!

Not true. The only GT500 in the 9's right now is Evolution Performances GT500. It is a shop car with far more than a modified stock supercharger and drag radials. The first time they went 9's they used nitrous along with a long list of other mods and slicks. Now they are running 9's (9.86) with a KB supercharger and an even longer list of additional mods (including a built bottom end). It's not as simple as spending 5k and going 9's Another guy that has ran I believe high 10's with his Shelby has already had to significantly modify his rear with upgraded axles, detroit locker, etc....because he was breaking rearend parts. As you can tell I follow the Mustang forums...since I still own two Mustangs

Ahhh, well I remember reading it on another forum, but maybe it just got messed up bouncing from forum to forum like the telephone game lol Broeli have you ever seen the guy online who bought a v6 one for real cheap ( it was totaled, i want to say from flood damage?) and put the gt500 drivetrain and stuff in it? Goes fast like one but looks exactly like the base model. One nasty sleeper! If I find the link I'll post it.

62 MPH = 100 KPH, actually. Which is why a lot of the European magazines will list 0-62 and not 0-60.

An amazing aspect of current crop of cars is that they're fairly clean burning. If anything, what will ruin our fun is an inevitable fuel crunch similar to that of the 70s - Say, $125 barrels of oil and $6.50+ for a gallon of premium, if you can find it at all. When that happens, we'll be reliving the 80s - sports cars being replaced by unimaginative junk that gets decent mileage.
