Honda Civic 4 dr SI Test Drive
Ok guys - a Civic SI and an Evo aren't even in the same category.
I own and track an Evo IX. It pretty much sits throughout the week since my commute to work is about 70 miles/day. I picked up an 98 Honda Accord to rack on the miles instead; 22k in less than a year just on it! Also pulls 32mpg.
However I'm looking to get something a bit newer and probably with a warranty for a DD. Considering a newer Civic SI as well as a Mini. Both would be fun, light, 30+mpg and FWD (midwest winters). Good reading some opinions here.
However I'd never compare the Civic to the Evo; just too different.

Plus, you can get a LSD from the factory!
Problem is that new mini's (since they're BMW owned) are pretty expensive. Mini S's at my local dealer show MSRP of $26-31k.
I've yet to drive a MS3, SI, Mini S......

Man, I can't even get 24 on the hwy with the Evo. Around town, I get 14-15
Oh yeah... forgot the SI came with a LSD. I probably just didn't notice it because of the lack of torque! Kidding aside, I didn't get to really get on it powering out of a corner. I do love the K20 for a NA motor, but I'm too use to driving turbo motors with 2x+ the torque.

All I want is something that'll net me ~30mpg on interstate trips. Also, my drive to work is 95% interstate set the cruise and go!
For example, I'll pull near 24mpg in the Evo on interstate trips.

i got about 22mpg city and about 24-25 highway. NO MODS other than a rear sway bar!! its really sucky on gas.. i can almost get the evo up that high!! i just pulled a 22.5 MPG on highway with the evo last week!!
I dont know what your talking about the Si having "fair" handling... Im in no way a honda guy at all. Probably the only Honda i would own is a Civic for a DD, but we had a new Si head up to the north GA mtns with us a few months back and it owned all... It was passing numerous modded Evo's and STi's with no problems and it was stock. Hands down the best handling FWD car ive ever seen in action. If i had the money to keep the Evo and get a nice DD id defiently get a Si and ive never owned a FWD car.
