What do you guys know about Saab Viggens?
Alright well I am in search for something with decent power and capable handling. I want a car that looks nice and is built with nice materials inside and out. A car that I can play with, maybe modify and when I am done being tearing up on ramps, down off ramps, taking my turns hard and shifting alot... I can take a late night trip back to my house after being out and not be annoyed with boy racer crap like my SRT-4s stiff suspension set up, insanely loud exhaust and cheap feel. Am I asking for too much or can a Saab Viggen do just that for me? I LOVE that blue color they offer the car in. I am also deeply concerned with reliability, it is important to me... this will be my daily driver and I need something that can take my style of driving, not be tempermental and finicky... a nice car that I can count on as well as play with. These SEEM to be the all around package, and Saab before GM is always better if buying one at all. Whatta ya think? Heres a picture of one I found... I think they look pretty sharp, and with some aftermarket touch... even better. My budget is $13000 max
Viggens are pretty cool planes, but I doubt you can get one for $13,000. They were retired a few years ago. Also, they're woefully inefficient.
Oh, you meant the car...
I love the styling, personally, but they're very quirky cars, and can be a royal pain in the *** to maintain or repair. Not sure how well they'll stand up to an abusive driver, either.

Saab- Not sure on reliability but the had one of the most advanced engine management systems of it's time. Of note was the computers use of the spark plugs as knock sensors. using the spark energy as a signal of how conductive the mixture was. It was advanced then and is still noteworthy by today's standards. Cool cars, and that blue is definitely sweet.

I've owned two Saab 900 turbos, an 87 and '89. They both had close to 200k miles when they were sold. Besides rebuilt trannys they just had regular maintenance done. As for the Viggen, yes I'd say it would also be quite reliable, I believe they were built before Saab was totally GM-inatered. The interiors are very nice BTW.

I had an '88 Saab 900 SPG. beefed it up to 325HP. www.saabperformanceparts.com talk to the owner Gary, he will tell you the ins and outs of which saab to get. Pull up a snickers bar, he will talk your ear off!! I sent him my stock evo intercooler, which he prototyped into some Saabs. He knows turbos as well. Call if interested.
