Need Help With Tercel!

Well, my girlfriend has a 1995 toyota tercel, and today she was on her way to work when she heard a clanking noise, she pulled over to check what it was, and the car died on her, when she went to turn on the car, it wouldn't crank. I arrived about 45 minutes later, and when I turned it on, it clanked, REAL loud so I turned it off. I checked her oil level and it was REAL bad, extremely low, so I filled it with oil, but when I turned it back on, same scenario. So, now I don't know what to do, I can't pinpoint where the noise is coming from it's pretty mcuh coming from everywhere, and it's really loud, so I have no clue what to do, any ideas any help would be great, thanks guys

It sounds like the engine might be toast. How low is real low? If it was pretty much out of oil I would guess something internal in the engine has came loose thus making the sound you are hearing. If that is case I would not think it is worth fixing.

Yep, sounds like rod knock... Been there, done that... Same story almost... Only an Evo. I would bet one part or other of her engine is toast... Lesson learned, check your oil once a week no matter what car you drive. And if you can't handle that, buy a BMW or something that checks it's own oil.

lol, well thanks guys, and when I say low, I mean pretty effing low. I did my best to keep that car going, but the maintenance that was done to it before she owned the car was pretty much non existent. I'll pu tit to u this wires, I changed the spark plug wires at 210k miles. So, you get where I'm going with this

my idea was to sell it for about 300 or 400 and let the new buyer know that there iss omething wrong. Plus we have a 2000 sonata waiting for her, jus tneeds a new engine so I'm in the process of doing that, what do you all think?

that definitely sounds like the engine's gone. I used to have a Tercel back in college, great car if you change the oil and stuff! sold it with 200k still running strong, and as far as I know, it's still on the road. Another one I know of, the oil plug fell out from a bad oil change and drained all the oil, and then the same sound you're describing. If you sell it, you may as well say "needs new engine"...

That's what I'm thinking of doing, and to be honest, like Is aid I took as much care of that car as possible, because it was in BAD shape, I'll take a pic of the engine bay, later so you guys can see how bad it is
