pretty sure even stock vipers were tractionless wonders driven by bored mid-life crisis victims.

i wont miss the ~2 per year i see.

Won't miss it either. Plus they were bound to loose to chevy in the power wars especially considering the price difference between the corvette and the snake...

almost all high performance cars will be gone in a few years thanks to that 35mpg law by 2010 or wat ever. no more HEMI... no more vette... no more nothing.


we will all be driving .2131343213 hp econoboxes soon. and F&F 5 will be called The Slow And The Delirious

It's funny you should mention that... the increase in power from 500HP to 600HP in 2008 came from a 0.1L increase in displacement and the addition of VVT. While I'm not a fan of pushrod motors, I'm impressed that Dodge was able to incorporate independant intake and exhaust valve timing modulation within a pushrod package.

The addition of VVT in 08 allowed the Viper to meet stricter emissions regulations and as a lovely side effect added a heathy boost in power. The V10 in the viper now makes almost as much power naturally aspirated as the supercharged ZR1...

Honestly I'm sad to see it go... competition breeds innovation.

And as far as the fuel economy issue. The law stated that the manufacturers entire vehicle line must have an average fuel economy of 35MPG. That means that the 50MPG compacts of the not so distant future can average with the 20MPG trucks for a fleet average of 35MPG.

The only thing I'm not sure of, is that an average across models, or across production numbers? Meaning... if they sell 10,000 50MPG cars and only 100 8MPG vipers, they're in the clear by far still...

The latter would make more sense, it would just be extremely difficult to track. Numbers produced vs. numbers sold vs. miles driven, etc...

You are so right and I think that cars like the Viper keep pushing the envelope of power to the competition. I hope this is just a rumor and we see the next gen Viper and hopefully it won't be a hybrid.


for one of the bada** car. We are lucky to have it around.
