VIPER ALARM - is the price right?

Searched the forums but couldn't find anything about viper alarm pricing... going to order one of these alarm/remote start systems online. I've seen them at best buy for around $500+ (who actually buys stuff from best buy though?) and on the viper website theyre around 500 too... I did a google shopping search and found this

http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/viper5202v.aspx

It says "brand new factory sealed" but also says "refurbished"

How much did you guys get your viper alarms for?

i have a buddy who got one from best buy for half off (employee discount) and he still paid 250 for it. i would say go for it. Refurbished isnt always that bad and you still get the manufactures warranty.

I am an installer for Best Buy and I know are prices are a bit high however; The price does include "basic" installation. Also you have the comfort of having a nation-wide lifetime warranty on both the alarm and the installation. Also $500 is for the top of the line alarm and the 399 version does the same thing minus the screen (The one you have a link to)... The install for that unit is 199 (through best buy) so your only saving $70 and you only have a 3 year warranty vs lifetime.

That unit is 199 installed from best buy, or the install costs $199?

Mark up on stuff like this is huge in most businesses. I bought my compustar I put in my WRX(autostart and alarm for $105 bucks shipped.

My Evo is garage kept, so Im not worried about an alarm for that. I would however cop this for my Busa. I say give it a shot, it does come with warranty.

If you do install one I wouldnt recommend installing the remote start portion. Seen way to many things happen to vehicles with them and ive heard of a lot of them being installers cars even. Keep in mind an alarm though is only as good as the install dont go too cheap by shopping online.

The viper he's looking at is made for manual transmissions, when hooked up properly there area series of steps he has to go through (foot brake, ebrake, push button on remote, get out of car, and lock with remote(shuts down the car)) to use the remote start and make sure everything is perfect. If so much as a door is opened, the remote start is cancelled until the procedure is repeated to "prime" the system.

It's fine, buy it. It's been reconditioned. Though if they are not an authorized dealer, directed won't help you at all down the road, lifetime warranty on their products.

Hence, the 3 year warranty, probably through that company online.
