From ITR to EVO how does it compare?

Greetings,
I am a previous ITR owner and loved that thing to its death when it got stolen. My question is to previous owners of the ITR and have moved on to the EVO, how would you compare the two in every regard?

From my research it seems like the EVO is closer to the ITR than to the STI, do you think this is accurate?

Thanks for your oppinions.

The regular WRX is close to the ITR and the EVO is head and shoulders above both. The EVO is a car that performs on par with the world's best and the many comparisons prove that. Either an STI or an EVO would be a major upgrade and preference is the only real diiferentiating factor between the two in my mind.

yes it is a very accurate comparesion. They both have very stiff suspension. I like my evo better than the ITR (2001 yellow). I guess im just to addictied to the turbo. All in all they handle very much the same. I have found I have more control with the evo over the ITR thanks to all wheel drive. So if your looking for the same feel then the evo is VERY close with handleing and suspension feel. But you will feel a little more brave cutting highspeed turns and rain thanks to the awd...

Both great cars but like I said personaly I like the Evo better.

pm if you have any other questions, I have both cars. well had.. I sold the ITR about 6 months ago and built a civic lol... I just didnt think the itr was fast enough and didnt want to worry about blowing up such a strong engine. I aslo bought an evo so I have something really fun around corners.

I would say an ITR would out handle an old school wrx any day of the week. The ITR's are underrated in ther handleing ablity I think. They are very strong cars... Yes I do agree the EVO is better all around to say its on par with say a stock wrx is an understatement... (just my .02 cents)

Happy shopping.

I had a 97 ITR #96. I would say they both have the same soul. Near race ready cars meant to be driven on a track. The car comes alive at the track! It's simply the most adjustable car in a turn. Even more so than my R1 RX-7. There's great midrange torque to pull you out of corners. You don't have to wring it out as hard as the ITR to go fast. The tires are also amazing. Much more so than the ITR bridgestones. It definately feels heavier but it doesn't give up much to the ITR in terms of lightness on its feet.

I sold a 2000 Black ITR for an EVO. As far as handling is concerned they feel very similar, I would say the EVO is more forgiving. I am happy with my trade, no regrets.

195hp.....

I had a 2000 ITR that I ended up selling to get my Evo.

The ITR and the Evo are very comparable in many regards. They both have very stiff suspensions. They both handle quite well. They are both specially built off of a more mundane platform. Neither has cruise control. They are both pretty loud on the inside (lack of sound deadening)....though the Evo is a bit quieter...

But that being said, the Evo stands head and shoulders above the Acura in all performance categories.

btw....The Evo isn't nearly as sought after by thieves as the ITR's. So if you get an Evo, you can leave the constant paranoia of having your car stolen behind.....those who own/ owned ITR's know what I mean!

The only thing you'll have to get used to is having torque in the lower revs.....And remembering that the peak hp/tq is not at the redline....

SC~

Odd..My name is Kevin and I had a Type R stolen as well...it was a '98 with 20k miles on it over the roughly 4 1/2 years I owned it. I parked it on the street once, and, of course, it got ripped off. It was found in San Jose a week later completely stripped, with the exception of the airbags. Obviously all the Type R parts were swaped onto a GSR--morons should have kept the body.

Anyway, I have to agree with IzenGrey. Both are meant for the track. Half the miles on my Type R came from Sears Point, Laguna, Thunder Hill, and Buttonwillow. The Type R was the best car I have ever owned--not a single problem, even with all of the track time. I can't say I like the Evo better, it is just different. Definitely faster, insane brakes, torque (obviously, not a strong point of the ITR). The biggest problem I have with the Evo is the build quality. I have 4000 miles on it now, and it does not give my the feeling it will hold up well over the years. Mine is a total rattle trap, and it's brand freakin' new! Mechanically, it has been fine so far, with the exception of warped rotors (due to a knucklehead at the dealer with a torque wrench, which they used after I asked them to torque by hand!). I have to admit, I enjoy the evo more on the street.
My .02....
