G35 Coupe or RX8?
Well that's certainly news to me... Everyone that I know has some sort of mods to their RX-7... I've never seen a stock one come to think about it..!! If they remain stock, sure they'll last.. But there's nothing exciting about them... That's just my point... There's just WAAAYY too many guys that I know besides my best friend that has had many problems with them.. Also, all of the avid fans of the rotary admit to the weakness of the engine at the same time as saying that it's great! To each his own I suppose... I just know that there is a lot more to the G35 than the RX-8... That is what this thread is about after all...
i will go wit a rx-8 if u lookin for something that's sporty...G35...i'll buy it if u want a luxery coupe...performance wise...both aren't that bad...so...is up to...u want a sport or a luxery coupe? and forget the aftermarket parts...even GEO metro have aftermarket parts...so i m sure both of those car will have a lot of aftermarket support
Mazda didn't have a chance the fix the problems in the US, but they did fix the big problems later on, on the RX7. I'm not here to try to prove you or your friend wrong. That particular RX7 (1993-1995) did have big problems, but they were already addressed by Mazda.
Although a lot of people won't mod their cars, the people who will, will know what they are doing and will try to avoid engine problems the turbo rotary had in the past.
Here's a scan of an article of Feed's RX8

One more thing...There are more G35s than RX8s because the first RX8 arrived on Jul 11th and the G35 has been out for awhile now.

The RX-7 tends to overheat and catch fire. That has been a major problem for Mazda especially with lawsuits from owners. In 1995, Mazda withdrew the cars from the US Market due to low sales and the expensive warranty claims. Despite this, the RX-7 can still be a great platform for a modified sports car. For example, RE Amemiya of Japan has two RX-7s both that are modified extensively and built to last. These two RX-7s, one white and one green are pretty much the fastest road going RX-7s ever. The there is the Silver C-West RX-7 which is also not prone to burning up as the stock RX-7 would. The problem with the RX-7 has not as much to do with the rotary as the rest of the engine. The cooling system on the car was struggling to keep the engine temps down and thus, it would catch fire. The rotary engine of the RX-7 had its problems. The different parts of the engine was not designed and fitted as well as it should have. Now what is different with the RX-8 is that the rotary engine has been completely revised and built so that every component of the engine would function correctly and well.
The last gen rotarys, I've seen some with upwards of 100K miles on them. If you mod a rotary, as with ANY motor, you decrease the life expectancy. They were problematic, and I dont expect the Renesis to be any different over time. Its an exlusive motor in a car that is compromised for practicality, but so severly lacking in performance. An Evo is the same price, much more practical and albeit, ricier, but definitely worth every penny. The RX8 is just a boulevard cruiser, along with the 350z. Modifications are too expensive to do and just not worth it.
I think you probably need to drive them both.
From just sitting in them... the G35 seems to feel like a bigger car.
The Rx-8 looks smaller in real life than in the magazines.
Having both mazda and infiniti cars... I think the mazda has a sportier feel to the car.. and aim more towards that feeling of sporty interior.
The infiniti looks and feels more open and sterile. Now on the flip side.. the 350z is very sporty feeling .
I think it just comes down to the "feeling" the car gives you when your driving it.
I doubt you'd go wrong with either.

Just got my EVO magazine from the UK (it covers all kinds of performance cars). It's the best car mag in the world, no doubt. Anyway, they tested the RX-8 against the VW R32 (a car I considered, but it's been really delayed getting here). Both cars got 5 stars (the max), but they rated the RX-8 higher and really liked the drive. They are very tough on cars when they rate them, too. They tested the UK-spec 350Z, too and gave it 4 1/2 stars. It looks nicer inside than the US car. I wonder if they upgraded it since the UK has more demanding car buyers.
Of course when it comes to sports saloons (the Euro word for sedans), the Evo VIII came out on top. Competition includes the STi (2.0L - the REAL one), Audi S4 (the new one), Jag X-Type, Merc C32, Volvo S60R, etc. Another win!
